Letâs exonerate the shit out of âMr Presidentâ.
Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said in a statement Monday that the committee will hold a vote on authorizing subpoenas of the full Mueller report and its underlying evidence Wednesday.
Why the hurry?
This current crop of Democratic officials appear to have grown a backbone after years of wandering in the flip flop appeasement desert. Thank goodness!
Some non-Mueller Trump news
The last line of Krugmanâs column:
What a colossal, corrupt waste.
The Trump adminâs theme.
Letâs do this again.
Go Nads! Go Nads! Go Nads!
Not really. They still have not even asked for Trumpâs tax returns in a sternly written letter.
They should start with subpoenas, not letters.
Pelosi is slow-walking everything.
Voting to authorize subpoenas and actually issuing them are two different things, And if the subpoenas are defied issuing comtempt citations is another level this would need taken to. Itâll be interesting to see how much Nadler is showy bluster and empty bravado, as opposed to the real thing. Same goes for all the heads of other House committees investigating all things Trump and Russia.
Russia, if youâre out there, send we Americans the Mueller
Report.
Trump has probably made it know to everyone within earshot heâll consider release of the full, unredacted report an act of treason that will be dealt with accordingly.
You a RISD grad?
Itâs an April Foolsâ trick. Theyâre actually going to it today.
Schedule the vote for 12:01 AM on Wednesday. The more votes on record of Râs capitulating to Trump the better, makes it harder for them to distance themselves when the poop hits the fan later.
Russia or Wikileaks, if youâre out there, send we Americans the Mueller Report. No more Republican cover up stone walling.
Of course, the WH will claim executive privilege, state secrets, etc., and itâll go to the courts. I think I read somewhere that congress (but not the public) has a legal right to the full, unredacted report, per statute. If so, then itâs a facially simple case and unless the courts want to massively obstruct justice to protect their guy, Dems win. If not, then Iâm pretty sure that case law and precedent is on Demsâ side, but that will drag out for a while till itâs settled, and in the meantime the media and public will lose interest.
Iâm hoping that in the meantime they donât âaccidentallyâ erase the report. Muellerâs a boy scout and I doubt he made a secret, illegal backup hidden somewhere. I suppose that he could have authorized a staffer to maintain backups and that staffer âforgotâ about one or two of them, so if the official report is erased, such a backup could still be found. But, again, Muellerâs a by the book Joe Friday type and he may well be willing to let the country burn to the ground if saving it means bending a few rules.
Thing is, if they manage to prevent the full report from being released, itâs going to hurt them politically, more than they realize. The media and public will smell a coverup, since, if they claim that the report vindicates them, it makes no sense to not release it. And even if they fail to block its release, trying to do so will hurt them.
I agree. For some reasons Dems are always hesitant to actually take strong action, as opposed to issuing strong words. What are they afraid of? Do they still cling to the delusion that our government functions properly and that by playing by the rules theyâll accomplish anything? Is this denial or fearâor denial because of fear?
True! More than likely, they already have it.
This is the right move and Iâm glad itâs being done exactly 1 day after the deadline. Itâs the right approach. Nadler will have to actually issue the subpoena, however, to make the threat real. Make no mistake about it, House Dems intimidated Barr into issuing that second letter. They need to understand their power and go right at him to get the whole report released or leaked.
The smart move for Barr to wash his hands of the whole thing (like he shouldâve done) is to have the report quietly partially or fully leaked to the media. Then, he can release the whole report and avoid scrutiny from Trump.
