Discussion: House GOPers Scramble To Explain Why O'Care Repeal Bill Doesn't Apply To Them

Or maybe older, sicker people can just turn in their cell phones.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), the leader of the right-wing House Freedom Caucus, was one of very few who had an answer ready. He argued to reporters that because D.C. is not a state, it cannot apply for or receive the same waivers states can under their bill.

“If Speaker Ryan is Governor of the state of D.C., yes, I might be able to get an exemption,” he joked. “I don’t worry that Washington D.C. is going to be a state while I’m in Congress and so me getting a waiver based on Washington D.C. being a state is something that has less than a one percent chance of happening, I mean we’ve got bigger problems.”

Googles…

nope,no response from either Mayor Bowser or Eleanor Holmes-Norton yet.

“Freedom Caucus chair Mark Meadows now says he is 100% confident this exemption will be taken out of the bill.”

He went on to say, “Of course, we would not have to do that if it had not been for some snoopy “Fake News” reporters blabbing to everyone. Geez.”

If I waited for a live townhall, I would be waiting a loooong time since my representative did not hold any during the break!

Repubs put the provision that they would be in the ACA in the first place, thinking it would be a poison pill that Dems wouldn’t like. Surprise! The Dems were fine with it, and now Congress is all in the ACA.

They want to back to what we had before, where they got the best and the rest of us had to have the crappy stuff. Typical Repubs.

Don’t worry
It will be AHCA 2.0 with the exact same reaction or maybe worse at the town halls

Come-on GUYS, do your JOB…LOL

O YES…please explain…HOW TO GOVERN.

The only actions this INCOMPETENT bunch know about is pulling the plug on other people’s efforts or how to SAY NO. If it’s not about obstruction, it’s not in their wheelhouse.
Like the ant said to the grasshopper, put some clothes on dude.

Listen up kids…DO YOUR JOBS.

Since these exemptions apply on the state level it will be people in Red States who get screwed, while their Reps enjoy the full protections of the original ACA. Maybe folks in those states should reconsider which party they want to see running things.

Even the author of the amendment in question, Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), had to be warned on the elevator ride down to the conference meeting

While Cook has the district as a borderline purple (r+2), MacArthur has ‘Anderson Silva money’ (he’s the richest member of the NJ Congressional delegation) to throw at any challenger.

Those funds were the primary reason why he was able to beat Belgard in '14.

Side-note: Trump won/flipped that district (it went for 44 in '08 n '12) by 6 in '16.

The answer is easy. The House is about to hose 20-30 million Americans. They don’t want to be hosed. They are special.
