Discussion for article #233142
Orange man has to talk tough for a few days to placate the RWNJs in his caucus. There may even be a short shutdown of DHS.
However, he will eventually cave to a more “reasoned” approach such is as a clean temporary continued funding resolution. While he represents GOP “party leadership” de jure; he really isn’t a de facto party leader. The real power people in the GOP don’t want to look worse on immigration than they already do.
A majority of Boehner’s caucus don’t think the gigantic coastal hazard bonfires and the neon power of a hundred Times Squares throws sufficient light on their massive “F**K YOU, HISPANICS; EAT A CANTALOUPE” sign.
“Why don’t you ask the Senate Democrats when they’re going to get off their ass and do something,” he told reporters, “other than to vote no?”
Now that is rich irony.
McConnell thought control of the Senate would give him control of Congress. He has discovered that he has just as much control as Harry Reid, which is virtually none. The Hastard rule and Boehner’s weakness mean the country is spinning out of control.
Six weeks into the Republican majority, you’ve got the House Republican leader making snotty, snarky comments about the Senate Republican leader. It’s going to be a great year for those of us who follow political news. And then we get the Republican primaries, always a good lesson in eating your young. Time to stock up on popcorn.
"Asked about McConnell’s remark that it’s now up to the House, Boehner smiled sarcastically.
“I love Mitch,” he said."
You should always be very very afraid when a GOPer says they love you.
They have to govern and are frustrated by the tactics they used to stall progress. Hoisted by their own petard.
You know, these aren’t stupid people (ok.Some…). They know that this will be a disaster for them in terms of overall public opinion. However, the GOP is a majority party that governs for a minority voter pool that shows up ~6 months before election time. Those who refuse to take the hardest of hard lines will be ousted.
I am starting to wonder if this is going to be the time when they finally just follow what the base wants, starting with a complete shutdown of the DHS and then possibly with another government shutdown and default…this time for the duration up to the 2016 elections. Their popularity will plummet along with their chances of holding the Senate or winning the White House, but the primary voters will send the ones that survive back with enough numbers to keep things from happening. Which will be fine. At this point a zombie government IS the GOP platform.
“The GOP leadership’s strategy is music to the ears of the hardliners in Boehner’s conference, who want to fight tooth and nail to stop President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration.”
It’s music to the ears of Democrats too.
Is the point of this little love-spat to force the Senate to pass a clean(er) funding bill and send it back to the House where they can make poopy-faces while waiting until 3 minutes before midnight to accept some backdoor compromise?
Somehow you can’t stop yourself from laughing at that statement. Pubbies have been voting “no” on everything Obama for 6 years and now even the Pubbies are voting “no” on each others proposals. And these clowns are going show the American people what leadership is? Sheeesh!
Yes sorta. lol! The House will end up passing a clean bill with mostly Dem votes and Tea Partiers will set their hair on fire again.
Meanwhile, over in the Democratic side of the Senate, they’re laughing at the Turtle and saying “how you like us now, bitch?”
This is the very first time I have ever seen a tug-of-war to throw somebody under the bus.
To which the Democrats should reply, “We’ll get off of our asses as soon as John Boehner and the rest of the Republicans get their heads out of THEIR asses.”
Not much to stand on here. They had no problem with it when the GOP was in the minority and did exactly the same thing.
Won’t you please contribute to the American Self-Awareness Fund? Each year, millions of people suffer from a critical lack of self-awareness, making idiotic remarks that would humiliate themselves if they possessed even the smallest modicum of this important trait. For just pennies a day, you can support a Republican politician in desperate need of introspection and the ability to recognize in themselves the flaws they accuse others of having. Please donate today; these people aren’t getting any smarter on their own.
Sure it wasn’t “I love the bitch”?
LMAO at any Republican making a statement being mad about obstruction after the past 6 years. Shut the entire fuck up, Boehner.
