Discussion: House GOP Proposes School Lunch Program For 'Rural' Kids Only

I hope each of the repubs who supported this crap suffer. Now the question is: what should they suffer? Hunger would be appropriate. So would loss at the polls. Ridicule in the press? Of course. It really gets my dander up when a politician who should know better acts like a bully toward a child.

Well, so much for the GOP “minority outreach”. Otherwise known as #GOP-FAIL.

I don’t believe I can post what I really feel about these people = suffice it to say it ain’t nice.

I keep meaning to ask you if your avatar has a personal meaning - like maybe your dog. Is it a beagle. I love beagles. I support a rescue organization that rescues them from animal testing labs.

You forgot “welfare” in your list, with the optional extension “welfare queen”. Still the same synonym.

Leave it to a batch of slimy nudniks like this to come up with a “Policy” that starves kids in the cities while feeding kids a distance away. You see, to these low lifes, geography doesn’t really matter. These fine people just get their “fun” out of the fact that somewhere, somehow, they are starving children. That’s all that matters to their ilk.And if you listen closely, I bet some of the people who support this idea actually get a laugh or two out of how clever they are, while the kids go hungry.

I’d love to hear some Republican spokesperson give a “rational” explanation for this type of discrimination. I’m sure there is an excellent reason for this. Let us know what the reason is, and let the fun begin.

Gosh it only seemed like yesterday Paul Ryan was talking about his great concern for reforming programs for “inner cities”.

Apparently “reform” meant hungry urban kids.

Leaving kids hungry is Paul Ryan’s way of showing he cares.

With reference to my avatar…yes it is very personal. This is Murphy. She is a Red Tick Coonhound. And she is a rescue from our local Humane Society shelter. We got her at 8 wweks of age. In the avatar photo she’s about 8-9 months old so it would be easy to mistake from the photo that she’s a Beagle but she isn’t. Allow me a moment to rummage and I’ll post a better image.

There. The dog on the left in this image is our Murphy at 2 years of age. The pooch on the right is her litter sister (also a rescue by some friends) Daisy. Just 2 months ago Daisy died suddenly from some unknown massive infection.

“a valuable resource for families who are struggling and, critics say, a nice freebie for those who are not.” I’m not worried about the occasional kid from a middle-class family getting a free lunch, if that’s what it takes to get food to the poor kids. I don’t think we have to worry about a whole lot of free lunches going to the kids from rich families, although I wouldn’t put it past Mitt and Anne to try to horn in on the program.

I’m struggling with the idea that a politician would think it OK to deny food to a poor kid. That does not compute. How could a politician be so callous as to deny food to a kid just for a vote?

I pick Door #1.

They’re not even trying to pretend otherwise. In fact, when I first read Josh’s post about this yesterday, the repub spokesperson couldn’t come up with a reason.

Poor whites live in urban areas, too. Republicans just don’t like “poor” anybody.

Edited to add that repubs really don’t like the poor of a certain color or two.

You are already seeing the end of the GOP. They are a regional party that sometimes wins midterms (as another TM poster stated). There is a very good chance we will never see another Republican President. Isn’t it fitting that George W. Bush will be the last?

Being a Republican. In fact, Republican is the nastiest thing I can think to call anyone.

Oh, there will be others. I’d like to think that they will not be anything like these incredibly horrible human beings. But as long as ignorance and Fox News exist, I’m not that optimistic.

Walker, et al got into the governors’ mansion by pretending to be something they weren’t. Bush was selected president.

We seem to repeat the mistakes of history.

Transparency: You have it. The GOP couldn’t have been any clearer on the priorities of the GOP. But hey, it’s all about a “pilot program”. Nothing to see here, move on.

Unfortunately the pictures didn’t come through. I love Coonhounds. In fact,I love animals of all stripes, even reptiles. I believe all critters have a right to be here. I am so sorry about Daisy. I lost my 22 year old cat last March and haven’t replaced him. I am planning to officially retire the end of the year and am waiting until after I retire.

Came through fine here. Can’t say I’ve heard of a Red Tick Coonhound but they sure are good looking.

Well crap. It looked good on my end. Sorry about the image not posting. I thought I did it correcly
I’ll try another way

Did it work this time? different image posted a different way. Murphy is on the left daisy is on the right. Murphy’s getting a nose full of daisy’s garlic breath

They are a hunting dog from the south. They specialize in treeing raccoons. They’ve been selected to learn how to do this on their own. I can attest to this dogs intelligence ans sweet nature.
She would never deny a poor kid their lunch.
