Discussion: House Dems: Mueller Willing To Testify, DOJ Won't Set A Date

SO… now we know the recipe for running out the clock:

The DOJ reportedly hasn’t agreed to a date for the possible testimony given Mueller’s continued employment at the DOJ.

If Mueller is the person they say he is…he should quit now and petition to be heard.

I’m sure it’s not reluctance but rather just one of those things where you propose a date to someone who’s busy that day, and he or she suggests another one that isn’t good for you and so forth.

“Hello? Robert Mueller please…”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Mueller has stepped away from his desk. May I put you in his voicemail?”
“Yes, please.”
“I’m sorry, this mailbox is full. Please call back.”

Can Mueller testify before the Senate?

This is why the power to subpoena exists.

Can he be called by a Republican-led committee? Certainly …

Yes, but Miss Manners says to first send a number of polite letters.

And don’t use white paper if it’s after Labor Day.

DOJ intends to schedule his appearance one day after the 2020 election… Then they will cancel at the last minute…

But why was Barr called to testify?

I’ve displayed in these threads an inability to recognize snark, so I’m not sure whether your response is snarky, Matt. I apologize if it is, but clearly this isn’t an inability of Mueller and the Committee to find a mutually convenient date: DOJ (which isn’t involved) is stonewalling.

If I were Mueller, I’d ask to be subpoenaed, or I’d just go. What is Barr going to do – fire Mueller for insubordination? Not likely.

Damn skippy. Let’s see some truly heroic behavior from someone who doesn’t have anything to lose by doing the right thing. Were he to do this, I might change my opinion.

I don’t mind that they ask first, but the first second an answer isn’t forthcoming the subpoena should go out the second later. Can show up this date? Fine. You will show up on this date of our choosing.

My response was snarky. When I’m being serious I tend to use a lot of variations of the word “fuck.”

Sigh.

Oh, now, it’s OK. I’ve many times looked up someone’s comment history if I don’t know the person’s style, to figure out if it’s snark or not.

Why should he have quit? Do you remember how many oversight hearings and hours AG Eric Holder attended? Do you remember the proportion of good faith oversight to political buffoonery by Gohmert, Issa, Jordan, Chaiffetz et al?

Subclause 2 of the XIth Commandment (IOKIYAR)- Oversight by Congress is only for Democratic Presidents and their DOJ and State Department appointeees
