Not a good time to board the Titanic.

Bad recruiting. Sad!

Good. If you haven’t read the book, I do not recommend it. The professional reviews were not good and rightfully so. He is third generation Ohioan, never having lived in Kentucky. His mother was also born in Ohio. Beyond the memoir, his few political statement are irrational and all merely antigovernment. Had to keep reminding myself he is only 30 and his rationality did not reflect a degree from Yale.

It has nothing to do with the fact he takes the homestead exemption for the home in DC and only rents an apartment in Columbus for his occasional overnights. It has nothing to do with his charitable org has done nothing to bring jobs to “his people” but funded his speechifying around the state. And nothing to do with the only folks supporting him are the Kasich gang who are out of favor in my state.

But of course it has to do with spending more time with his family.

He is from Ohio, but not at this time of Ohio. He was worked in Sili Valley for years. To run in OH, he needs to rebuild his network and connections there.

And as to the review of jcs, Hillbilly Elegy told a true story. Dems who ignore the book will continue to lose elections. Clearly, jcs, you know nothing about OH - southeastern Ohio around Marietta is one with KY in the people and outlook. It’s Appalachia.

If the Republican dominated Ohio legislature and Republican governor keep ignoring Vance’s “people” the Democrats will win in the state. By the way, Vance was born in the county just north of Cincinnati not SE Ohio.

“I thought seriously about running in August 2017, but decided that the timing was awful for my young family,” he said in the statement. “Some things have changed since then, but not enough to make running a good idea.”

“This is a brand new suit I’m wearing and I’ve no intention of soiling it.”

That’s what Dems have said for 30 years. Funny, Rs keep winning. Why is that? Simple, really. 1) identity stupidity 2) BLM 3) illegals.

Thanks for info. Will be reading it for a book club, wasn’t sure what to expect.

It’s an interesting book, but it is mostly a coming-of-age story. If you go in with a biased view, you will miss his points, which have validity.

Snapping Turtle sighs, droops his head, and rummages through the costume trunk for his next candidate.

@theod Nobody else wants to run against Sen. Brown.

His book was interesting but thin.* WHITE TRASH (Isenberg) is much better and grounded in real historical research.

Floating him as Senatorial Material is another case of celebrity culture gone stupid.* Let him start doing public legislative/managerial service at the local or state level first. His world (now far from his white trash roots) needs better Dog Catchers and Trash Management. Why are so many people boosted beyond their Peter Principle level?

  • Yet he seems smart enough to intuit that it would be a bad time to run as a Republican.

Thanks. Amazon states Ron Howard movie is in the works, FWIW

Fuck that guy. My family is from E. Ky too and I’ve lived there as well. His stories ring true, but I think one of his motivations for written the book was to push his objectivist horseshit.

You know, it actually sounds like he cares about people and solving problems. He’s make a terrible republican senator.

“Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH), who is running for governor, told a Cleveland radio station he would mull running if he had the backing of President Donald Trump.”

If I had the backing of Preznit VSG, I’d run too.

Lots of people like it but my book club thought it was a good memoir but, like the critics, he is not from Appalachia, and his story does not tell of life there. His simple, irrational political observations are irrational and silky.
Let me know what you think.

Guess running into the propellers didn’t sound like such a good idea after all.
