“Here’s Why The NYSE Went Black For Hours Yesterday”

I still can’t find the answer to the “Why”.

Yeah, exactly. In journalism you are supposed to learn the 5 W’s.
This was the answer to “what?” not “why?”

The article doesn’t match the headline. Nobody has explained why the NYSE went down, at least not yet. Technical glitch can mean anything from a squirrel biting an electrical cord to a complex selling program that hadn’t been adequately tested.

A “technical issue” caused the American exchange to shut down when the Chinese market went into free fall?

Is someone trying to lay anything between the lines?

What, exactly, does “technical issue” mean on Wall Street?

Technical issue: ‘we don’t know what it was, but it’s a good cover’.

Me neither…because they still don’t know, or they won’t tell the public until they go through the system. That’s one hell of a “glitch” though. This article really tries to say that its really no big deal because other exchanges picked up the slack.

There were guys out on Broadway, flinging wide their overcoats to display legal documents pinned to the lining, asking tourists, “Want to buy some stocks?”

…stocks continued to fall, but in an orderly fashion.

OK then, as long as it was “orderly” there’s no reason to be concerned.
