Discussion for article #238283
âHereâs Why The NYSE Went Black For Hours Yesterdayâ
I still canât find the answer to the âWhyâ.
Yeah, exactly. In journalism you are supposed to learn the 5 Wâs.
This was the answer to âwhat?â not âwhy?â
The article doesnât match the headline. Nobody has explained why the NYSE went down, at least not yet. Technical glitch can mean anything from a squirrel biting an electrical cord to a complex selling program that hadnât been adequately tested.
A âtechnical issueâ caused the American exchange to shut down when the Chinese market went into free fall?
Is someone trying to lay anything between the lines?
What, exactly, does âtechnical issueâ mean on Wall Street?
Technical issue: âwe donât know what it was, but itâs a good coverâ.
Me neitherâŚbecause they still donât know, or they wonât tell the public until they go through the system. Thatâs one hell of a âglitchâ though. This article really tries to say that its really no big deal because other exchanges picked up the slack.
There were guys out on Broadway, flinging wide their overcoats to display legal documents pinned to the lining, asking tourists, âWant to buy some stocks?â
âŚstocks continued to fall, but in an orderly fashion.
OK then, as long as it was âorderlyâ thereâs no reason to be concerned.
