Discussion: Helping An Early Supporter Convicted Of Contempt Of Court, Trump Pardons 'Sheriff Joe' Arpaio

There you go again Trump, tacitly approving criminal behavior by law enforcement, you racist scum.

More disgusting behavior from a fake President who is devoid of ethics, morals, and the most basic concepts of human decency.

Besides the obvious precedents, Trump is doing something else—he is suborning the Republicans into yet more and more lawlessness.
Trump should be impeached over this pardon. Not one Republican will call for impeachment, or express anything more than the deep concern which is equivalent to mild indigestion.
I don’t think Republicans fully understand how Trump is dragging them deeper into immorality and lawlessness, one step at a time; I’m sure Trump himself has an intuitive, possibly inchoate, but firm grasp on the moral and ethical calculus involved.

To quote someone else: “Historically, all US Presidents pardons towards the end of their terms.”

I won the pool.

One has to wonder, though, how anyone so mercurial can be so predictable.

Trump has utter contempt for precedent and the rule of law as well as honest law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm every day. I wouldn’t be shocked if he pardoned Officer Justin Volpe who sodomized Abner Louima with a broken broom handle.
Heck he is so megalomaniacal and enamored by his shrunken base he might as well posthumously pardon Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson and it would not cost him much support.

I think he will begin to issue pardons on a regular basis.

There.

Actually for him they’re fairly easy. Not a lot to read or analyze, just a page or two.

Back in the '90’s the GOP would have called local law enforcement enforcing immigration laws without federal funding and unfunded mandate, but I guess that is now considered “quaint”. As to Trump, this is just another example of him putting personal loyalty before ethics or country. The man enjoys being the bull in the china shop, he has no respect for norms of behavior among civilized people.

Trump just delivered a clear message to all associates who are caught up in Mueller’s investigation.

One of the great powers of the tyrant is the ability to not prosecute those who commit atrocities in his name.

McCain says in a statement that “no one is above the law” and “sworn law officers should always seek to be beyond reproach in their commitment to fairly enforcing the laws they swore to uphold.”

By pardoning Arpaio, McCain says it undermines Trump’s claim for the respect of rule of law.

He also says Arpaio has shown no remorse for his actions.

Unless McCain proposes a remedy, he is complicit. The only remedy is impeachment.

BFF ! How revealing. Picture is worth 1000 words. Does this racist fascist remind you of your good old DAD Donald?

Shades of Hitler.

Democrats are going to the shellac the Republicans in the next year or two.

How can they not understand where they’re going with Trump at the helm? Especially since we, the American people (at least the non-racist/non-misogynist ones, that is), can see it so clearly? These are people who have been ‘in the game’ for a very long time. They know exactly where they’re going as per immorality and lawlessness. The difference is they don’t give a flying rat’s behind(excuse the coarse expression, but it fits), as long as they can ram through all of their pet causes before the house burns down.

Yes, this is an impeachable offense if you ask me. It is so disgraceful. Trump has shown he has no respect for the Judiciary, the rule of law, and Latinos all in one move. “But we knew that” doesn’t make up for the sheer racism and abuse of power.

This POS better not claim again that he represents all Americans and that he’s interested in a unified Nation, yadda yadda. But of course he will. Lies are his stock in trade.

As for the Repubs in Congress, I expect nothing, and I mean nothing, in response. And you’re right, by doing nothing they make themselves complicit.

Trump starts with a truly outrageous pardon. In terms of the number and depravity of his offenses, Arpaio is worse than Flynn, although perhaps not worse than Manafort.
When Trump pardons Flynn, he will of course tout the consent that he already received for pardoning Arpaio.

He’s too late. They were already pardoned by Andrew Johnson in 1868.
