Discussion: Haspel Divulges Personal Details In Her First Public Event At Her Alma Mater

Pappy’s is completely out of my universe but would love to find a bottle of that Elijah myself: Feel the same about A.H. Hirsch Reserve; can’t find it and probably couldn’t afford it if I could, but nice to think about.

Some excellent bourbons come out of the Jim Beam/Suntory matrix though. Don’t think much of the Beam labels themselves but will happily drink a Bookers or Knob Creek any old time.

If only some option existed for sites that want to handle that kind of traffic.

I accept Josh’s word on the matter. The server errors got really bad around the time of the redesign, but that could have been coincidence or an indirect effect (such as greatly increased page views as people toured the redesigned site and figured out how to navigate it). The errors were around long before the redesign, so the redesign clearly was not the cause.

I don’t have Prime, so I feel that I can complain in the comments, but not demand much. I just wish TPM would tell us what the issue is. Is it a money thing? Too busy to make it a top priority right now? Trying to find an option that isn’t highly disruptive? Throw us a bone.

The puffiness is courtesy of AP, which TPM likes to make use of to keep overall quality down to reasonable levels.

The subject matter is TPM-worthy, though. Haspel is the first woman to head the agency, and, because she came up through the agency, we don’t know a lot about her.

Haspel:

And I made it a tradition that when … foreign heads of service visit Langley, Virginia, and sit with me in my office, I send them away with a bottle of very fine Kentucky bourbon

My question is does she also give them the money to cover the tariff

I’ll see if I can find the answer in The Hive to share…
basically, they know about it but were prioritizing the redesign, IIRC

Hey I look at it as now I know a hell of lot more about bourbons than I did before. Sometimes we need something to cut all the Kavanaugh crappy taste in our mouths.

@ottnott - This was on The Hive at end of August. At the same time the new front page roll-out was going on, there was a big breaking news story that swamped the Discourse commenting system. @TPMJOE posted the foolowing

Perhaps an occasional update can be linked from the front page so that non=Prime folks will have a clue too.

Many thanks, and I’m glad to see that TPM had provided a thorough explanation that covered all my questions and more.

The “foreign visitors” get Kentucky Bourbon, and in return give her a bottle of Stolichnaya Vodka.

She suggests a taste of that exclusive likker, and after a couple of hours of taste-testing, they’re fine with US policy, and are eager to meet the Blabber-in-Chief himself.

Meh. Some Bourbon. Meh.
Glenmorangie is another story.

Well, since all the Republican “leadership” thinks women are torturers anyway…

Besides, their favorite movie is the hard core version of Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS.

Yeah I used to like woodford, but Wellers 12 yr old is just awesome, but super hard to find. Also Four Roses single barrel, Basel Hayden, Bookers, and of course old Pappy are superior.

Big fan of giving out the best of America though. Bourbon.

And yes, it the used barrels do a great job making some super tasty bourbon barrel beers. Prairie from OKC is an amazing little brewery.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that a “public” address about the CIA even occurs?

Aren’t they basically supposed to stay in the shadows, generally speaking?

Well, My Gosh! What a good 'ol gal! Just the kinda woman you’d want to be your personal waterboarder…

A rasher of bacon.

I wonder if she was also hawking her book.
