I guess you’ve figured out this is where I live, and in today’s Chron, Willie Brown had something to say about her, seems to be not sure at all she will prevail (he also acknowledged in another short article he’d dated her 20 years ago, and says so what?).
One plus she has if you can call it that is a brief record of her service in national politics similar to Obama. She’s been in local and state politics, but the national record of any candidate seems to be the one oppo researchers go after.
Boxer endorsed her, just as other outgoing incumbents have endorsed a successor and Harris beat another Democrat in that race. Where’s the spoon feeding? If she were to win in 2020 she will have been in the senate for four years, and if four years is what a president must get things done in, she’ll have done that (and when she leaves Gov. Newsom will appoint Adam Schiff to fill her term, he’ll run in 2022 and win, but that’s my personal fantasy).
In addition the work done in the House (i.e. hopefully lot of public hearings of subpoenaed if neccesary witnesses under oath) will make the public case for it.
He needs to be seen guilty AF in the court of public opinion first for enough Russian Republican (or is it Republican Russian? I get confused) Senators to join Dems to convict.
Nice Willie Brown comparison. That’s a high compliment in my book. I didn’t get to know Kamala until she ran for State AG but once I learned about her and heard her speak I was SO IMPRESSED.
We can’t go there until we’re sure even the moron’s so-called base (1/3 of the electorate) understands how serious the charges against him are, that cohort that’s still screaming about building a wall and draining the swamp. If we don’t we’ll hear the usual RW harpies charging nullification of the 2016 election.
That might be the one good thing the Trump administration has done in regards to cyber security, they banned Kaspersky Labs software back in 2017. Given Trump’s inability to consider specifics though, I have a feeling “Kasperskie” Labs software is probably installed on every device in the Oval office.
Just wanted to say that Kamala looked RADIANT at her rally. I’ve almost never seen her smile to much. She looked super duper happy. I am pleasantly surprised at how much energy and enthusiasm she is bringing to it.
Senate confirmation hearings are not a good place for such emotions, so this campaign will bring out a different side of her personality for the public at large. And that’s a good thing.
The Internet Left (or maybe I should call them the putative internet left) was afroth’d with incoherent rage today about all things Harris. It was interesting to watch.
I would like a little bit of persuading about Harris’ relatively heavy-handed views on criminal justice (or just for the issue to be tackled head-on), but aside from that she’s my candidate to beat at this point.
While I absolutely agree that Harris is preferable to the people you’ve named, I wouldn’t characterize Warren as having “baggage”. Bernie, on the other hand, brings more baggage than the storage compartment of an international 747.
Not to mention that Bernie would turn 80 in his 1st year in office, and both Biden and Bloomberg would turn 80 in their first term.
Time for our new Dem ideas delivered by the next generation of Dems.
Full disclosure, I myself am a tail end Baby Boomer so this is not an ageist argument. I don’t want or need some 80-something while man telling my college freshman son how he plans to make his and his generation’s life better.
I’ve raised this before about Warren. When she leaves the senate a repub governor chooses her replacement and a special election won’t be called for six months.
I’m very willing for everyone on our team to go out and see who wins in the primaries. That said, I like Harris a whole lot. Even the most cursory look at her—which is all she will get from eight out of ten voters—tells you she’s a serious, poised, intelligent person. She just radiates that. And you know what? I even like it that she’s from California. I like it that she’s from the place we want to get to when we fly over the other places. We don’t hear much these days about how much “empathy” we should strive for regarding Trump voters. Maybe the Trump voters should work a little harder to understand us. There are more of us. We produce more. We’ve been carrying them. We represent the future, not the past. We’ve read the analyses and we have a pretty good idea what motivated you, gang. You need to understand what motivates us because until you do you’re sitting at the kids’ table. You’re not capable of picking leaders so we’re going to do it for you.
She’s so damn SMART too! Just look at that metaphor about a virus infecting the WH. Finally a congressperson who understands computers (all due respect to Mark Warner) !!!
Clinton along with Holder and some others are in the “Unlikely to Run” category. Biden and Sanders are in the “Likely to run” category. Bloomberg and Brown are in the “Might Run” category.
