The law Clinton signed prevented the government from impeding oneās religious practice, as happened with an incarcerated Muslim who was subsequently permitted to grow a short beard and pray five times a day. Thatās also the substance of the other laws that have passed.
The Indiana law differs in that it protects an operator of a business serving the general public should they decide to not serve certain people on religious grounds. Since Indiana doesnāt consider sexual orientation or gender identity as protected classes, they are uniquely unprotected, unlike race, national origin, or religious affiliation which are specifically protected in Indiana law.
