We all know how Catholic Republicans are continuously campaigning to accept refugees from war into our country so we can give them aid and succor as we would Jesus himself. We see Right Wing Christians everywhere following Jesus’ directive, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”. They seem to constantly “forgive those who trespass against them” and turn the other cheek when someone smites them… and if some poor homeless dude asks for their cloaks, they are sure to give them their coats as well. Non Christians are hardly aware of Conservative Christian prayer, because they always pray in the closet rather than on the streets like the hypocrites and they definitely always give to Caesar what is Caesar’s (except, of course, for all of those shelters [Americans shelter an amount equal to the GDP of France]). They certainly don’t “bastardize” their faith…My sarcasm runneth over…
Like Sean Hannity said (amazingly so - of course he was relating that Pope Francis couldn’t say that Trump wasn’t very Christian), “So the Church is not really in a position, I don’t think, to lecture anybody on what it means to be good Christians.” You know Sean, you’re right. Who knows less about what it means to be a good Christian than the Church?

So these emails are from 2011 and Hillary didn’t start her campaign until 2015. Should we go back and review each and every email from the Trump, sons, Bannon, and on down the list to see if they haven’t expressed any unorthodox views either religious or political?

You have my sympathy. I listen to right-wing Catholic radio a lot, and I know the type. It’s a shame, because I know so many caring, socially progressive Catholics. But the damage that John Paul and Benedict encouraged here will take years to fix: the hierarchy and staff are filled with their ilk.

Swiftboating kills Democratic campaigns because they don’t effectively fight back. I saw several “email reports” on network news tonight; the Clinton campaign’s response was feeble and wholly unsatisfactory. You can’t run out the clock for 28 days. So you must attack Trump in the most direct ways possible— showing his violent rallies and threats to kill Clinton, his scapegoating of the country’s troubles on Mexicans and Muslims, his TrumpTroopers roundingup millions and forcibly expelling them, his campaign to intimidate the press into submission, put flunkies in charge of the armed forces, take over the FBI and jail his political opponents. And then, yes, morph all these into Germany in the 1930s, giant rallies in Berlin and Nurenberg, and Hitler’s manic speeches into Trumps. From reading all the wonderfully excited commentaries here about the new polling numbers this week, I suspect I am the only one here who still believes the election can be lost if the Democrats don’t toughen the message. But I am really convinced that it can be. And that the only way to put Trump away is to crystalize the election stakes in unmistakeable and visual ways.

I had a friend who for a time was looking at joining the Jesuits, he was a bit of an interesting character in high school his two big idols were St. Augustine and Justice Souter, in the end having to deal with the far-right wack job tendencies of the local diocesan seminarians played a large part in him backing out of the process.
