Discussion: Gunman, Now Dead, Kills 11 People At A California Country Dance Bar

And be formally trained in the use of the weapon. Not by Billy Bob’s Certified Gun School. Preferably by an Army Drill Sergeant.

There probably something left to be said about this bullshit happenng again and again and again, but I’ll be damned if I know what it is.

I can appreciate the actual art that goes in to making a weapon. My ideal weapon would be a tricked out M1-A, or better yet, an M14 with the selector switch, bipod, and high power scope. I sometimes think about what would happen if open hostilities occur. What would I do with no weapon? Being a city dweller I think my best option would be a shotgun with out the possibility of shooting thru two or three houses and killing a neighbor up or down the street. In the military I like to blow shit up but I don’t think I need the right to possess C-4 or grenades, LAWS, or machine guns. I’d feel more comfortable if none of us had those weapons, but that’s just me.

Sorry, but I think we should be coming after your gun.

Today’s military grade weapons have no reason to exist in the hands of civilians. The only reason they exist is to kill many people easily in short time. Intellectual interest is one thing, ownership another.

Please do rethink owning this weapon.

It’s a really good suggestion. I remember how amazed/horrified I was at the damage bullets did to the bodies of animals the first time I went hunting. Actually one of my first thoughts is that many of these rambos would probably think twice about doing that to another human being.

Then a neighbor came back from a tour in Iraq. He was a young kid but he had an iPad filled with images of people he had killed, seen dead, found hit by IEDs etc. I’ve never seen real carnage like that and trust me, it is abominable. Turns your stomach in ways you didn’t know it could. My neighbor seemed like he was amazed but at a distance. I thought there was a lot of humanity in that kid, even though he probably needed help dealing with whatever he experienced. I hope he’s ok.

Politically speaking, don’t forget the power of the actual (or fabricated/enhanced) images of aborted fetuses and what they did to motivate the anti-abortion movement.

How about starting by supporting Dem candidates instead of undermining them and getting Repubs elected? Or is that too obvious for you, troll?

Agreed, this happens far too frequently and appears to be a uniquely American phenomenon.

Completely agree on that idea!!

There’s a lot in this world to be curious about. Like, a lot. I could make you a list, but I see you have your own.

I agree. I wholeheartedly agree.

But, as I’ve said before around these parts I think people like us need to actually belong to a militia for our town and we should expect to give up our weapons to our town armory when not in use and then to check them out to hunt, practice or other approved use.

I think that requirement would make a person like me rethink whether gun ownership is worth the hassle.

So at what point does the aura of “stable genuis” kick in and have kick-ass checks and balances to out of control ownership take place?

Or do those who elected our fake news president think that a return to normalcy is just around the corner?

Obviously, you have no solutions to offer, either.

For the record, I am a Democrat and I do support Democratic candidates of my choice with votes, funding, and labor.

Feels like the country has been coming apart at the seams the last few weeks. Twitter is predictably terrible for the psyche right now. How do we respond? It seems like we need to repeal the 2nd amendment, but that will never happen, and would push the GOP more rapidly towards true American fascism.

I spent most of 1968 and 1969 in Vietnam. It took me 27 years to begin to come to terms with it. I hope your neighbor is OK, too, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it took him 27 years to face his experiences, too. If he is having problems I hope he gets help.
I’ve never been a hunter. Most of the nutbars running around in the militias are just a lot of wannabes who are clueless. Having said that, I do think certain weapons are amazing machines as @j_publicus mentioned. I just don’t think they should be available to the general public.

I would really like to go two fucking weeks without a mass shooting.

Mine is a very long list. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to don a squirrel suit and jump off a mountain, but I know I’ll never do it.

It has gotten so frequent, so mainstream that I find myself scrolling past these gruesome accounts in despair and disbelief. The desciptions are generally the same, motives generally unknown to all but the perps. The teeth gnashing over gun control and thoughts and prayers and DC cowardice appear like clockwork. The funerals occur,“normalcy” returns to everyday lives.Tomorrow looms as we look on slack jawed and bewildered girding for the next “incident”.Knowing full well Americans are literally living the definition of insanity.

I suppose that Fat Ass will Tweet out his meaningless “thoughts and prayers” line any minute now from his unsecured iPhone while sitting on the Presidential Shitter.

Wow. It’s unbelievable how scarring these things are. I just met another guy recently who took out a photograph of himself flying as a gunner in a chopper in Cambodia within 5 minutes of meeting me. That’s a long-term scar right there.

Which is why I think the anti-gun movement might need to take a page from the anti-abortion movement: maybe it is time to allow Americans to see the pictures.
