Discussion: Gun Show Wants To Return Arizona, City Council Wants Background Checks

Discussion for article #238565

I have yet to hear a reasonable or convincing argument for why gun-show sellers shouldn’t be required to do background checks. Good for the City of Tucscon for upholding their law.

way to go Shriners. I’m guessing the ER staff at your kiddies hospital doesn’t share your take on background checks.

Luckily, the Sabbar Shrine “Temple” (it is a fraternal organization, not religious) is near a Catholic church, so it is a convenient location if you want to pray that a crazy person doesn’t buy a gun and stroll over to the nearby elementary school to do some shooting.

I lived really close to this place growing up. Compared to a Convention Center setting, it is a very small place.

“It’s not an ordinance. It’s a condition of using our property, and we’re going to keep implementing it.”

WHAT ! – A city in Arizona having a moment of clarity ?? Some semblance of reason ??

Well … The NRA isn’t going to stand for that !

Man, it’s just way too much trouble to go to!

Why do they need to sell guns at a gun show? You don’t go to an auto show to buy a car, you go to look at them and if you like one, you go to a dealer. Should be the same with guns.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

There is is folks…all 27 words of it. Nothing about a prohibition of background checks…nothing about open carry or standing your ground. Actually not a thing guaranteeing private ownership of a firearm. But it does say “well regulated”…seems everyone forgot that part.

I would like this comment ten times, if I could.

And it also say nothing about prohibing ownership by felons, mentally ill or children, but those limits are accepted, even by Scalia. Originalist, my rear end!

Even crazy ass 2nd Amendment nut Scalia agrees with you:

Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. [United States v.] Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.

“Sabbar Shrine”? OMG, the militant Mooslims are gonna have access to guns! Then they’ll put on little red fezzes and drive innocent-looking mini cars into great big crowds of people!

“Words We Live By: Faith, Hope and Charity”

Faith that the people buying guns at their hall won’t be nuts
Hope that those nuts won’t open fire around them or their loved ones
Charity towards the people killed and to the nut, but only post-mortem.

That’s my town! But expect our idiot GOP Guv and GOP legislature to submit a bill to prevent The City of Tucson from enforcing this decision in …3, 2, 1…

Same thing in Pennsylvania, the state legislature tries to keep local municipalities from enacting gun restrictions. I guess they don’t like local control over things as much when it leads to outcomes they don’t like.

Your “Business Model” does not outweigh the Cities safety concerns.
Deal with it Bubba.

WTF does Tucson think it’s doing? You’d think they somehow got the crazy idea citizens were arming themselves within the confines of a well regulated militia. I swear, some looney notions just come out of left field, don’t they?

Let’s make it an ordinance so you have to do background checks at public and private locations.

So they can sell guns to people who wouldn’t pass a background check. How can you not be convinced by that? The 2nd amendment is for everybody. Arm the preborn! Graze your cattle for free. Keep the government more afraid of us than we are of them! USA! USA! USA!

Tucson has a Democratic Mayor. Tucson and Pima Counties support the Democratic Party.

I live in NYC, we are to the left. Guess what, there is a lot of NY State that is as far right as some places in AZ.

Don’t stereotype.
