Discussion for article #232945
So this is the stuff Nebraska’s legislature sits around mulling over? Good thing I’ve only done so much as fly over it. Or maybe that was Kansas…
Equal protection under the second amendment. You have to love these constitutional scholars.
"I think we just recognized gay marriage,” he said on Tuesday, according
to the World-Herald. “We are now using the federal government’s
standard for who receives marriage benefits.”
It’s OK, Senator. I’m confident that you, the state of Nebraska and the Republic will all somehow survive this.
—cackling madly–
I love me some unicameral.
This really not a victory for gay marriage or for same sex spouse. Simply a extremely hard core ideologically motivated interpretation of the supposed gun rights in the Second Amendment.
However, Sen. Dave Bloomfield ®, one of the bill’s sponsors, said he didn’t think the amendment would hurt the state’s ban on gay marriage.
Whistling past the gay-ban graveyard…
Considering most shootings with a legal firearm are accidental and most accidental shootings happen in the home, it’s not about who can marry the person they love, it’s about who can shoot the person they love.
“We are now using the federal government’s standard for who receives marriage benefits.”
That damn 14th Amendment!
Bob: Hi, and welcome again to the “Gay Communist Gun Club”, the organization dedicated to gayness…
John: …Communism…
Bob: …and guns. Let’s get right to our first caller.
Caller #1: Uh… I’m gay… and I’m pretty liberal… but I hate guns. Could I join the club?
Bob: No, I’m afraid not. You see, while we certainly support your gayness, without Communism…
John: …and guns…
Bob: …it’s pretty meaningless. Next call, please.
Caller #2: Yeah, I love guns… but I ain’t no Commie, and I certainly ain’t no homosexual. Could I join?
Bob: Sorry, no. We’d love to talk guns with you, but unless you took the next logical step of becoming gay and Communist, I don’t see much chance. Do you?
John: No, not really. Next caller, please.
Not a lawyer, but it seems that a law that recognizes the rights of same sex partners creates major issues for an older law that denies rights to same sex partners.
Way to go, NEBRASKA. One of those laws is going to invalidate one of the others, and it will be entertaining to watch how badly the gun fondlers want to extend gun fondling rights, even if it means extending marriage rights.
Snicker.
DING DING DING! Winner!
I’ve said it in other places, and I’ll say it here: We’re not dealing with MENSA’s(smart people)here.
About the only thing that could top this was back in the 1960s, when women were covered in that civil rights bill only because a North Carolina Republican introduced that provision as a poison bill of sorts, thinking that the bill would go down to defeat.
…and tell me again how the"Equal Protection Clause" works.
“…an amendment that would recognize military members’ same-sex spouses applying for gun permits…”
Our tax dollars at work.
First the Feds start forcing us to marry gay people BUT we know how to stop that – we’ll give gay married people guns! Now will you believe us that gay married people will destroy heterosexual marriage?
Snicker.
This is a tough one for the right-wingers. They have to decide what they like more: hating gays or jacking off to guns.
ammosexuals are gender neutral when it comes to their love of guns? who’d a thunk?
People still actually live in Nebraska?
"I think we just recognized gay marriage,”
Yeah, you did, but you were in a tough spot. You had to choose between destroying heterosexual marriage and destroying ammosexual marriage.
Of course, after a little thought, it was pretty clear which way the state had to go.
