Discussion for article #235023
There’s a reason Frank Luntz made so much money: Words matter. If you say “Gay rights” you are handing the GOP’ers and bigots all they need to shoot you down. “I don’t think you should get special rights because you are gay”…we’ve heard it all. Its “equal rights for Gays”…that’s how you do it. It plants a different image and thought in folk’s minds. It plants the right one too.
Gay rights are human rights and aren’t subject to being discriminated against. The fact that people chose to either single out Gays or not include them in their protective laws means that they are discriminating. Dividing out any particular group is the essence of discrimination. Doing it in the name of religion makes no difference except that it exposes the homophobes and their callous attempts to deny others their rights in Jesus name.
Christ loved everyone, why are Christians so unChristlike?
Good for them for fighting on. This is about civil rights. Until all people, including LGBT people cannot be discriminated in hiring/firing, housing, and accomodations, they are not equal citizens. They need to be a protected class just as different races are protected. The bigotry that has publically risen it’s ugly head since we elected a bi-racial President is embarrassing and disgusting for our country.
