Question:
Isn’t Sen McCain from Arizona?
It’s hard for me to believe that a Senator of McCain’s stature or even the junior Senator from Arizona Jeff Flake, knew absolutely nothing about the deaths until it was reported in the press and the net, back in April?
So my questions are: When did both Senators know and when did they first find out about the problems at the Phoenix VA?

The problem definitely lies with Congress. They filibustered legislation last year and killed a bill that would have seen a significant amount of funding go to the VA for more hospitals and treatment availability, which in turn would relieve some of the backlog these clinics were dealing with.
But, y’know…Obama’s Fault. O_o

Wow. She is really trying hard to lose any support I might have considered.
Knee-jerk “me too” leaps into hyperbolic attacks on the administration who have ben left with the herculean task of cleaning up decades of rot and disfunction within the VA is making me convinced Grimes is an idiot who shoots from the hip for a political sugar-high instead of being a thoughtful and serious public servant.

Christ, she’s a pro-choice, pro-marriage equality, pro VRA, Democrat who is trying to unseat a 30 year incumbent in a weirdly red state that hasn’t elected a Democrat to the US Senate since 1993. She’s got to take positions that make liberals uncomfortable in order to get elected in this God-forsaken shithole by these trash life rednecks who just want someone to go to DC and lynch that n(clang) who stole their perfectly perfect country. Give her a break. This is a good line of attack in KY.

Thank you Bosco. What do vets who can’t get an appointment at the VA do? Some considerable percentage of them write their representatives.
If your senator is a professional war hero like John McCain, you naturally write to Senator McCain. McCain in turn like any other senator, has a staffer whose job it is to deal with these VA inquiries, along with one or two other issues. This staffer could be expected to be expert about the VA and to notice if the VA is missing its appointment targets. This staffer could be expected to alert his boss. After all, its a Democratic administration and the senate has a legitimate oversight responsibility.
So, we can be pretty sure that Senator McCain, and any Congressman representing vets served by one of those hospitals knew all about it. As Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell would have been clued in too.
