No, it does not. It also doesn’t sound like ratings were the issue or that they simply decided to change the direction of her show. When that sort of thing happens the host is typically allowed to do a final “goodbye” show and an entirely new show is put in its place. They’re shit canning her specifically, even after she was the sole female host to defend the network in the wake of the Carlson allegations, and I’m very curious as to why.

I’m not sure. Maybe Van Susteren and Bill Shine don’t get along? Most of Fox’s major “talent” had contracts giving them the right to quit (with a full payout of their contract?) if Ailes ever left or was let go. Maybe Greta decided to take her payout and leave immediately just to screw Fox - she was a pretty big fan of Ailes after all.
That said, I agree with you, I think Van Susteren got fired. But I don’t think we can completely dismiss the idea that she quit of her own accord yet either.

Indeed. The posters above seem to assume that she left by her own decision. The story says nothing about that, and in my experience it’s unusual for someone to leave a job “immediately” and voluntarily unless there’s something else to latch on to.
Fox may believe (or assume) that Greta was not loyal to Ailes during the investigation of Carlson’s complaint and are taking the opportunity to clean house.

“Effective immediately” always has a somewhat ominous tone. No one leaving any position of employment on even lukewarm terms departs “immediately”. “Effective immediately” means either she left in a huff, or she got escorted to the front door with her personal belongings in a cardboard box.
