Discussion: Grassley: Senate 'Can’t Just Simply Stonewall' A Clinton SCOTUS Nominee

PredictIt has 3:2 against a confirmation of any Obama SCOTUS nominee and a 55% chance that Garland will be the next SCOTUS justice. So the betting is that Clinton will renominate Garland and Senate will confirm.

Hillary’s white

That’s also what I expect will happen, FWIW.

And no reported asked: “but what part of the constitution says the next president picks vacancies?”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Idiot) said Tuesday that the Senate won’t “stonewall” Hillary Clinton’s choice to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court if she is elected president in November. “We’ve said The People should have a say in their next Supreme Court justice and so we’re going to hold hearings on any Clinton nominee she brings forth by May 31st. After that we will stonewall until the next presidential election so The People can have a say, again.”

Garland is too old and too moderate. Give me a 35 year old firebrand.

With any luck, the Dems will retake the Senate and Schumer will kill the filibuster and fill the Federal judiciary with progressives—including the vacancy on the SCOTUS

“If that new president happens to be Hillary, we can’t just simply stonewall."

Sure you can. What the hell do you think you’ve been doing for the last 8 months?

You can’t, eh? Chuck, what have you been doing for the last eight months?

When Hillary wins the presidency and we take the Senate, I just want President Obama to immediately call a joint session of Congress to announce he is pulling the Garland nomination.

Then I want the cameras to STAY pointed at the Republicans and watch who has a heart attack.

Pick a justice who knows the law and can apply it to a particular case. Ideologues of either side do not belong on the Court.

Is there anything other than precedent that bars recess appointments to the supreme court? Sure, they wouldn’t be lifetime, but think who you could pick.

I miss Arlen Specter and his stare decisis lectures.

Unlike a lot of people, I am going to be SO sorry this campaign will be over. Truly.

I mean, every day a politician or sky pilot is humiliating himself or herself in public. There is just so much to choose from. It’s like having to name the best line of ‘The Simpsons.’

“Shallow dimwit” gives him too much credit. He made his mark in the Iowa legislature in the 60’s and 70’s by crusading against sex education in the public schools. He was, an is, a reactionary toad (apologies to the amphibian community).

Note that he says they won’t stonewall. Instead they’ll have hearings and vote down every nominee.[/quote]

This, exactly this!

This cretin is lying.

He wanted to say "We’re not just going to let that nomination hang,’ but that would conjure up too many nasty images, even for Chuckbear.
