Oh good. Just another opportunity for Grassley et al to attack the “deep state” and the “corruption of the intelligence agencies”. And somehow work Richard Steele into the conversation.
And the focus of the probe will be to criminalize McCabe.

Shorter Grassley: I want to make sure that the blame lies on The Liberal Wing of our govt and not our beloved Sir Trump.
They can’t govern. Legislation isn’t getting passed unless it’s a tax cut. We’re approaching another shutdown. I’m convinced Congress holds hearings just to have a reason to come to work. I mean, what else are they doing all day?
The purpose of this will be to attack McCabe and do what Trump failed to do: make McCabe look like a corrupt, biased witness. GOP is all in on the cover up as their major election strategy. They’re hitching their fortunes to Trump.
This, btw, is what I’ve been saying for months. The way we lost in 2016: blowing a lead and marked by internal divisions, meant that the GOP would not be swayed by polls or even interim wins for the Dems. To end this nonsense, we need to beat them on Election Day.
Like Watergate, the courts, the investigations and the voters have a role to play and feed off one another. We, as voters, need to do our part to end the Trumpocalypse. No help will be coming from the Republicans.

So I do not understand the above comments. He was asked.by a Dem to open an investigation. It will not be opened before the release of the memo. If anything it looks more like a stalling tactic then some attack on McCabe.
It took 2 months for Grassley to reply to Leahy’s letter. I suppose it took that long to decide how best to turn investigating the “political attacks against the FBI” into “we need to purge the FBI of deep state Trump enemies.”
In later statement Grassley added, “I’m rubber, you’re glue.”
And yet, the Democratic party still couldn’t run an effective campaign for their senate candidate in 2016. I’m glad to see they are finally realizing the folly of conceding certain seats, even if it is a little too late for the good people of Iowa. You can’t win if you don’t even try to compete.

David Frum pointed out that if you replace “deep state” with “the rule of law” in all these Trump apologists/supporters arguments, their statements make a little more sense.

So Grassley is only doing this because Leahy’s letter became public, two months after Grassley should have acted in the first place.

When that IG Report comes out, it’s going to be an embarrassment to Obama’s DOJ and the FBI. It must have been some real doozie for the IG and the FBI Office to recommend McCabe be fired. Pretend it’s Trump’s fault, but that’s just not true. McCabe made his bed trying to protect Hillary. And it’s going to be all out in the open.
