Discussion: Grassley On Trump Selecting SCOTUS Nominee: 'No Problem'

Grassley: Not my problem, we are just following Biden’s rule. We can blame Biden if it doesn’t work out.

What is he going to say. "Yes I know I am screwing the pooch badly on this, but I am waiting to find some sort face saving excuse "

Sorry Chuck, nothing to do with Donald Trump is ever “no problem.” In fact, everything to do with Trump is a problem, especially if he were to be able to appoint an extreme conservative reactionary like William Pryor to SCOTUS.

Trump is already tearing the GOP apart, do we really want the same for the U.S?

Actually, upChuck, there is a problem. You see, the SCOTUS nominee will be selected by the POTUS, a position that Drumpf will never, ever hold. So this is a problem only a complete grASSley couldn’t fathom.

It shouldn’t matter to you anyway. You see, after the election you will be working out of an office located blocks from the Capitol, probably somewhere on K Street.

I don’t know, Chuck. I think if Trump somehow—knock wood—becomes president, we should let the voters decide and hold out for the next election.

Go ahead Chuck, it’ll work out just fine.

Hey, why wait? Let Trump name someone now. I mean, we’ve gone this far off the Constitutional path, let’s just go all the way to Crazytown.

Grassley: “Of course it’s fine if Trump selects a nominee, we just want to make sure the black guy doesn’t select anyone else. Maybe we’ll wait until the next Republican is elected, since my reading of the Constitution says only conservatives should sit on the Supreme Court.”

Orly Taitz? Or the donnie could confer a Trump law degree on $ister$arah and appoint her…
That crazy?

Well, to begin with Grassley’s defective reasoning, Trump isn’t president yet even though he has the transition team up and running. Obama serves till mid January.

And there is that little problem of Democrats probably taking over the Senate who could hold off Trump’s nominees for four years because of the Biden rule…which doesn’t exist.

Besides, Trump can’t serve as Chief Justice as long as Roberts is still alive…much less serve as President and Chief Justice at the same time which is what this demagogue would demand.

Grassley acts as though King George is still in power…make that either of the Bushes not just the one that was crowned by the Rehnquist Supreme Court.

I like Trump’s new ambassador to Mexico, the Frito Bandito. And his ambassador to France, Pepe Le Pew.

Hillary wins the Presidency. However, the Senate remains firmly in GOP dominated hands. A conservative Justice retires. Hillary has a 4-3 SCOTUS largely sympathetic to her views. I wonder how the GOP would feel if she just said “Nah, 7 sounds like a good number, I’ll defer nominating anyone new for my full term.” She would have to put in a moderate, or centrist, or someone not fully on board with the Democrat’s wishes if she made a nomination that stood a chance at confirmation, so stand pat. Shoe. Other foot. I can hear the wailing now.

This really underscores Grassley’s unfitness for continued public office; anyone, ANYONE who would say “no problem” with leaving matters of grave import to Donald Trump is seriously out of touch with reality.

Chuck…of course it isn’t a problem. Can you guess why? Cuz it’s far more likely that you will lose your seat than for Trump to win the presidency. Take a chill pill and lay down somewhere. If Don turns into the disaster I think he’ll be, you can look forward to a nice cold retirement in Iowa next January and some other people will take care of the nominating/confirming.

OT: was just heading out to lunch and talking to a co-worker who is a huge Sanders supporter. We were talking about Ryan’s weasle words over Trump, and the discussion was evolved into people not being able to deal with complex issues or legislation like The 1994 crime bill which had good things and longer-term impacts that 2 decades later were not so good. She was railing about mass incarceration. I was pointing out that many members of the black caucus were pushing for the bill precisely because of the near exponential violence and crime rates within the black community at the time. And she was saying that black leaders who supported it were Uncle Tom’s and that black people supporting Clinton were Uncle Tom’s.

Needless to say, I had to cut her off right then and there and say I could not continue this conversation and go down that road with her. Very disheartening.

And his ambassadors to Australia and Canada, Taz (the Tasmanian Devil) and Dudley Do-Right, respectively.

I’d fully expect Trump to appoint Sheriff Joe Arpaio to the Supreme Court. Liberty University could give him an honorary law degree.
