Sessions has one goal in life and that is to have the freest hand possible to control black and brown people by incarcerating them wherever and whenever possible, preferably in private prisons controlled by people who donate to Republican candidates. And the President was going to fire him, and I backed him, you know? So why wouldn’t I be irritated?” he added.

trump wouldn’t waste his “executive time” reading legislation. It would make his eyes glass over within 30 seconds anyway. The man cannot read detailed and wordy material. Unless it’s reduced to a half page of bullet points he won’t read it.

Yup. At least he is open about expecting a quid pro quo. I pity Neil Gorsuch if he ever writes a decision that rubs Grassley the wrong way: “You wouldn’t be there if I hadn’t stonewalled Merritt Garland!”

Grassley points out a huge problem with how government functions: there’s too much quid pro quo. His anger, as expressed in this remark, isn’t based on the merits of either side’s argument - it’s based on being butt-hurt that Grassley’s buddy Sessions didn’t stand up for him the way Grassley had stood up for Sessions.
Grassley finally got around to a remark that has some merit: Congress writes the laws, the AG enforces them. Therefore, the AG’s opinions are neither here nor there. The AG needs to separate his current role from his previous role as a Senator. Grassley’s sore butt has nothing to do with anything worth noting.

Rarely has any Republican ever wrapped so incredibly much of their crass political motivations/expectations in a completely revealing rant (he is actually competing with Trump!).
