Discussion: Grassley Has Accepted Or Declined White House Invited On SCOTUS Vacancy

Not with somebody else’s dick.

Fournier no longer even tries to hide his right-wing bona fides.

Indeed…but they sure have chased that killer rabbit down its hole.

Frankly, I was even furious at the Daily Show last night for equating a filibuster of an identified SCOTUS nominee after hearings on the merits of his nomination with a refusal to even engage in any of the process whatsoever no matter who the nominee is. One is part of a recognized and legal parliamentary process that guarantees candidates receive substantive consideration (or at least the appearance thereof), while the other is a refusal to even allow process to exist and a deliberate breaking of the government’s ability to even function. The two things aren’t even remotely analogous and have grossly differing consequences for the nation’s future. THIS is the GOP winning the Civil War by intentionally destroying the federal government.

He just needs to make a recess appointment as I believe Eisenhower did.

I believe the word you may be looking for is impeachment. If the Senate Rethuglicans refuse to do their constitutional duty, they should all be impeached.

They will have some elected stooge to sit at the at big desk in Senate and declare that
the meeting is open…i.e. in session , not recess.

That is a shrewd observation, especially in light of what Turtle McConnell said and the letter yesterday from other republicans about not even entertaining the nominee. I would have expected Grassley office to immediately send a negative response.

I read these stories and want to spit in their face. But what needs to happen is relentless pushback from Democratic politicians, progressive news sites, social media and interviews with the mainstream media. Not only Senators, but the Presidential candidates, Governors, progressive thought leaders (Josh!) and concerned citizens need to be on message that the Rethuglican effort to avoid their Constitutional duty is repugnant to American values, not based in historical precedent, that the American people had a say when they elected Mr. Obama for a second term and that the disrespect shown the office of the President and Mr. Obama himself is shameful. The right wing has better managers and tighter messaging than the left, thanks to decades of effort by conservative think tanks, superPACS and billions of dark money from the Koch brothers and their ilk. Rise up! Storm the battlements! Speak out and don’t let the bastards get away with their egregious lies.

Shhhhhhhhh. They haven’t figured that out yet, if they ever will. In the mean time, the Dems make their moves. Come Ja. 2017, we get our fair and competent Court for decades to come.

Sue for breach of promise…How 'bout a class action suit? I’d sign on.

Not accepting the President’s invitation would be a break in congressional protocol …

Par for the course for the Congressional GOP lemmings. Just try to imagine the media outrage if the Dems had ever spat in dubya’s face the way these GOP Senators are spitting in Obama’s face. Not even a pretense of respect for the office, much less the man holding it.

I hope a Democrat at a Republican SOTU address screams “Fuck off”

Absolutely!

Grassley does not want to be seen with the president, plain and simple. Mostly because Obama is black. And undoubtedly there would be a photo at some point of Grassley smiling at something trivial. Which would make it look like he is getting along with the black guy. He does not want that.

Grassley suffers from profound mal-arrogance.

No reason Grassley need be polite or anything.

Except they never were civil or polite to President Obama.

That guy in Iraq who chucked his shoe at George Bush had the right idea in my humble opinion. I’d like to see him do it again at McConnell/Grassley.
