Discussion: Grassley: Dems' Call For FBI Help Shows 'Fundamental Misunderstanding'

Yeah, Chuck, the ā€œfundamental misunderstandingā€ is that the Rs are interested in finding the truth and making this anything other than a kangaroo court.

Apologies to kangaroos everywhere.

Sen. Grassley,

I appreciate how you note that your timeline matches Sen. Bidenā€™s for the Anita Hill case.

But arenā€™t you also forgetting that the FBI conducted a rapid investigation there?

Canā€™t reference only the precedents that you like.

Grassley has always wanted his own Star Chamberā€¦this is closest heā€™ll get.

On other thread, there was a reference to Slate article about opening cases for SCOTUS. Explains a lot

Republican staff, he wrote, ā€œHas also sought to set up interviews with Dr. Ford, Mark Judge, and two other alleged witnesses.ā€

Seek and you shall find that Kavanaugh is not Mr. Nice Guy.

Why the hell doesnā€™t he just opt for maximum written parsimony and write back:

ā€œCuz we donā€™t wanna and we donā€™t hafta; and Iā€™m in charge; and we have more votes; andā€¦andā€¦cuz I said so! Niener, niener niener!ā€

Fordā€™s attorney has today criticized the limitation of witnesses as unfair and the rush to do it as contrary to discovering the truth.

But there was no express refusal to testify, nor follow-up express insistence on a FBI investigation beforehand.

If I had to guess, I think Professor Ford (at least as of this afternoon) appears to be leaning towards showing up for this hearing.

I do not know what back channels her attorney is having with the Dems, but they may be telling her that this hearing might be the only chance to get her side across in public before Kavaā€™nahā€™ is voted upon.

I was wondering why the Rā€™s were so insistent to get this guy through when they could find twenty more just like him. The Slate article makes it all clear.

After criticizing Democratsā€™ handling of Blasey Fordā€™s allegation ā€” and indeed, of Kavanaughā€™s entire confirmation process ā€” Grassley concluded: ā€œTherefore, I will view any additional complaints about the process very skeptically.ā€

Thatā€™s right! The honeymoon is over! No more Senator Nice Guy!!

Rush to judgement. Sometimes I wonder if donor funding for these ā€œmenā€ is predicated on pushing Kava-jive through. No Kava, no money.

LOL ā€“ extra bonus bit of hardball for Dr. Ford on Monday:

ā€œIn 1991, Republicans demanded the FBI investigate last minute, originally anonymous charges of sexual misconduct made by a woman against a Supreme Court nominee. Is that something you only do for black men?ā€

Perhaps. But if the goal is just to get her story out to the public, her attorneys could stage a presser and open it up to the press for questions. This would be the press event of the year and their questions couldnā€™t possibly be more odious than the GOP senatorsā€™. Better yet. Schedule the presser to coincide with Mondayā€™s hearing.

As Grassley was sipping on the Trump-Aid.
Slightly different then Jim Jones Kool-Aid but possibly just as deadly.

Chuck Grassley is a Swamp Creature.
