Discussion: Grassley Announces Friday Committee Vote On Kavanaugh, Day After Hearing

McConnell: “Betamax is against Senate tradition and I will not countenance such an outrageous breach of protocol.”

Reminds me of Colbert’s joke during the WHCD about W. Something like: I admire this man because he believes the same thing on Wednesday that he believed on Monday despite what happened on Tuesday.

Of course they can. They haven’t even dropped a C-bomb yet.

My inner voice is telling me they are in trouble, big trouble. This farce is not going to help their mid-terms. So looking beyond, there is something near term with a immediate need. So many things to choose from.

If Kavanaugh makes it on to the court, my sense is that this experience is not going to be a thing that makes him a better, more empathetic, thoughtful judge and human being.

Yeah, Right. . . . . . That’s why yesterday McConnell said ". . . we’re gonna plow right through it and do our job, [confirm Kavanaugh]” Any pretense that the Repugs have an open mind is just that, corrupt pretense . . .a con. … . . just like their boss.

Abraham Lincoln is spinning in his grave over what Trump and company combined with fifty years of corrupt Repuglicans have done to the GOP, . . .and our country.

Well, that all but confirms something I have been thinking…Republicans are willing to give up the Senate in order to have a wildly conservative Supreme Court. They think that the SC will be able to stop any and all progress towards a nation based in equality, because that is going to make their electoral chances far worse. They want to protect the tax cuts for the wealthy, they want a nation where it’s back to the 1950s and white men in control, and they see the courts as the best way to force that onto the nation.

They are wrong about that, of course…if the SC gets so out of step with the rest of the nation that it’s trying to raise up evangelical Christianity over everything else, if it’s trying to put women in the kitchen and gays in the closets, if it’s keeping black people from voting, then the people will, through elected representatives, shut it down. Judicial review only works if the government pays attention to the SC, and the rest of the government can check its decisions by ignoring them if they are so wildly backwards.

If they really do this, it’s their last gasp…they might hold the Senate in November because of the crappy map, but 2020 will be a bloodbath, especially if Trump runs again, and after that young people will seriously shut the whole Republican thing down. At least I hope…the alternate, where they get away with it and take over control, leads us to a nation that goes against its very principles, and I’m not sure how that ends for us or the rest of the world.

Okay, maybe I’m being a bit dense here, but this is just a committee vote. He still has to be voted on by the whole senate, right?

Or, is the story not correct?

You are correct. They will probably schedule a full vote this weekend as I read somewhere that the Turtle wanted Senators to clear their calendars and be available should he hold a vote. Lazy Susan will probably hem and haw for show, followed by all the Senators pressuring her with some form of either bullying tactics or offer her some lame talking points she can pretend to latch onto for her constituents. She will vote to confirm BK but her political career at that point going forward in Maine will probably be dead…at least I sincerely hope so.

Not getting my hopes up for this happening but would love for someone to at least get it on the record…

Correct:

  • Friday at 9:30 a.m. ET - Committee Vote.
  • Friday at 9:31 a.m. ET - Floor Vote.
  • Friday at 9:32 a.m. ET - Swearing In.
  • Friday at 9:33 a.m. ET - Corporate Orgy.

*In lieu of a bible, Kavanaugh will be sworn in on a copy of Bill Cosby’s autobiography.

If they manage to squeak this cheesy excuse for a man through, I’ll throw up.

First there will be a vote on cloture right? And if Collins and Murkowski haven’t been allowed to hear from other accusers it’s a possibility they hold out until a real investigation by the FBI happens. That will cover their asses for awhile anyway.

Might as well have the vote today. We know which way it will go.

Then get ready to barf. Personally, I just ran out and refilled my prescription for GERD. Hopefully I’ll be set in that department, but I may need something stronger for the rest of me.

Yeah. That’s what they’ll do this weekend. A cloture vote. And then move onto a Monday vote on Kavanaugh.

Prolly. But, what about Turd Blossom? It sounds like one of his.
