Discussion: Graphic Video Of Louisiana Police Fatally Shooting Black Man Sparks Protests

Re-read it. You have that backwards.

one of two police officers outside the store can be seen tackling a man in a red shirt and wrestling him to the ground

And after a tasering, you’re already jerking and twitching as your muscles spasm uncontrollably.

This was a murder, if not an outright execution. Those two need to be locked up in a small cell and dropped off in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico for the sharks.

as a resident of this city, i think it’s important we remind ourselves not to feed any trolls. even amateur, churlish, unoriginal trolls.

Oh, known piece of shit BR Advocate graphic indicates cops only pulled “apparent” guns.

In viewing the video, Alton Sterling NEVER had a chance to survive. What I saw was a calm man who was suddenly jumped on by one cop, then thrown on the hood of a car and is then forced to the ground. Once on the ground the second cop forces Mr. Sterling onto his back, while the first cop began to shout out, “gun!”, “gun!”. With intent, the second cop draws his gun and literally holds it close range up against Mr. Sterling’s chest and he fires his gun multiple times. Now, Mr. Sterling has lost his life.

I have also seen updates on Mr. Sterling’s untimely death, and it is now being reported that he had no gun in his possession and that he WAS NOT the intended victim! So if this is not a “cold blooded murder”, then what in the hell is it?

So guns kill people after all. Especially when they are in the back pocket of a subdued black guy.

How come we never hear from the NRA when a black gun owner’s rights (as in right to live) is infringed on?

He did have a gun in his pocket - by all accounts except those of the police, he carried it because he dealt in cash and was afraid of being a victim of violent crime.

According to the Institute for Economic and Peace, the US directly spends about 10.5% of GDP on violence containment. But even this magnificent figure only hints at the indirect costs of crowd control and passivating select groups in society. As is common in these cases, the police and media are already making Stirling the bad guy, including four years in prison for statutory rape and multiple other felony convictions, as well as fathering five kids. What gets me is that this moral dialog somewhat resembles the “good ant, bad ant” model detailed in TH White’s Once and Future King. Again, by the end of a few news cycles, what seems to be an execution of a US citizen is converted into a public service in the media discussion. The lesson apparently is that it is much more important to be a good ant than worry about the fate of our fellow ants, especially the bad ones.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. My original comment was posted while the news story was evolving. Now that time has past, it has been verified Mr. Sterling was in possession of a gun. But having a gun in one’s possession doesn’t warrant him/she to end up losing their life! He never drew it or threaten the police lives in any way. So I don’t see how they can honestly claim their lives at anytime, was facing fatal harm. Do you?

Not even a little. As he’d just been released from jail, the gun might not be legal, but that’s certainly no justification for killing the man. This was, as I said above, an execution, and these thugs in uniform should be facing murder charges.
