I doubt anyof these criminals fear being caught, being executed, or anything so much as having their religion mocked. We should know this by now. Do papers have the right to publish cartoons mocking the religions of others? Absolutely they do. But why would they? I mean, why the need to be so offensive just because one is entitled to be? I don’t get it. And I doubt there are many who have less respect for all organized religion than I do. Perhaps as an atheist, I am more inclined to live and let live because we have been persecuted and mocked since forever. I just don’t see why you would draw someone’s god nekkid with their genitals on display when one knows the rage that engenders. I mean, what is the point of that?
Again, of course anyone is entitled to pillory and mock and publish as they see fit. And of course law enforcement is obligated to ferret out and hand over for trial these murderous criminals. But I don’t think that will stop it from happening in the future. We need more respect going around, not less.
