Discussion: Graham On Confirming Garland In Lame Duck 'You Can't Have It Both Ways'

Maybe he needs to retire? You know, to spend more time with his family, so he can be sure to have plenty of time to call his son’s Math teacher. #WTF

Hi Sarah! How’s Trig?

I agree. Though this guy sounds like a solid progressive who faces center, his age is an issue. That said, if he’s healthy as a horse and has strong familial longevity, we may see him around for a lot longer, ala RBG. Still, I’m trusting Obama with his judgment – it’s proved to be very good.

The GOP is not on the high road of principle. They’re on a totally separate road of power and political points. And racism.
GOPers want it “both ways” with their supposition Obama cannot choose a nominee in his 7th year but it would be OK for a GOP President to do so. They have said as much. And if after the election HRC wins then they have indicated they’ll approve Garland cuz HRC may choose someone more liberal.
(lays head on desk)

“…It’s about the principle not the individual,” Perdue told reporters in a scrum on Wednesday.

I think that your “principle” is that the “individual” is Obama.

and so if we come to a point where we’ve lost the election, and we can get a centrist like Garland in there as opposed to someone like Hillary Clinton might appoint then I’d go for it."

And I’m going to buy a lottery ticket as soon as they hold the drawing, so I know what numbers to pick.

The GoP are the sickest people among our citizenry and this fake ass excuse for not doing their job is really ridiculous and it must stop! But, I’m sure it will last until the 115th Congressional session is ushered in.

After 7 years, you’d think the GoP would have learned something about President Obama…I already know, he (POTUS) is poised to win this battle…and they (GoP) are going to be the ones with stinky rotten eggs running down their faces on our VICTORY DAY!

This isn’t a lame duck situation, the term is not appropriate here.

Schizophrenia symptoms…

Cognitive issues/disorganized thinking. People with the cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia often struggle to remember things, organize their thoughts or complete tasks. Commonly, people with schizophrenia have anosognosia or “lack of insight.” This means the person is unaware that he has the illness, which can make treating or working with him much more challenging. - See more at: https://www.nami.org/Learn-More/Mental-Health-Conditions/Schizophrenia#sthash.tmMxo18X.dpuf

The only “principle” operative here is the one estabished at the republicans’ Tortilla Coast Summit of December 2008. To wit, “Oppose this Presient at every opportunity and make Obama a one-term President.”

See how well that worked out, Mitch? (Just cannot teach an old tortoise a new trick.)

Well, yes, no doubt; but the problems are extreme yet an awful lot of time has gone by with no visible progress in fixing them.

How to evoke Weimar Germany without ever mentioning it. Well done.

If you know what to do, and people have explained it, it’s not an issue at all.

That would be wonderful, but it doesn’t seem to align with how he’s been described till now.

But (as someone else pointed out), Mitch was 100% successful in keeping Obama from being a three-term president!

Yes, it is. It’s blatant, and in the long term it demeans the Senate and what it has stood for over the years. Not always perfect but usually a deliberative and civil body a citizen could aspire to and sometimes attain. At first I thought it was just Turtle just trying to hang on to and enhance his leadership role, but it’s clear now what he was after.

Interesting item about Garland. He was the highest ranking Justice Department official on the ground after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995

Seriously Senator Blunt?

You’re going to equate scheduling an appt. with your son’s math teacher to meeting with a Supreme Court nominee?

In what other profession would you use the excuse that you can’t have a meeting with a VIP because you’re having trouble coordinating a time to meet with your son’s math teacher? Especially given that your inability to schedule that appointment with said teacher is because you yourself deem yourself to be a VIP?

Then do your fucking job!

If we all can enjoy the twisted interpretation of the constitution by which the GOP refuse to advise and consent on the presidents Supreme Court appointment perhaps we can embrace some change of our own to wit.
Article One section 2
The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.
Well well, it does not say each and every state does it? In plain language it says several states, like say three or four of the President’s choice shall we say. Interestingly section three is specific

SECTION. 3. The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, [chosen by the Legislature thereof,]* for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote.
Even Scalia should have seen the famed framers, the saintly beings we are told they were only intended each state to have two full time representatives.
This shall be fun!!

Nah, I don’t think so. She is actually competent at her job and apparently well respected everywhere. To appoint her would be quite out of character for The Donald.

Or are they planning more election shenanigans in November like in 2000?
