House Republicans would have accepted the “reasonable” settlement whereby the government was reopened at the cost of sneaking all these draconian immigration restrictions in through the back door. Republicans in congress would then go on TV and crow about how reasonable they had been, when the truth is that a racist demagogue manufactured a crisis so his allies would have political cover to appease the president’s racist supporters.
The MSM would be so busy taking dictation from all those stuffed shirts that they’d fail to cover any of the immigration stuff until it was all over. Many Americans might never hear about it at all, until they see a local reporter do a story on the curious rise of “deportation convoys.”
Not to mention an avalanche of kickbacks from a wasteful boondoggle that would make baklava look like concrete.

It’s amazing to see Trump and his multi-millionaire Cabinet members demonstrate how little they know about buying groceries. Mueller might be pursuing Donald for decades like Inspector Jarvert, because Trump thinks everyone just takes a loaf of bread off a grocery shelf and leaves an IOU.
It’s so odd to see Republicans finally admitting that a country actually needs a federal government to function. Conservatives have been telling themselves ever since Washington shot a hole in the Articles of Confederation that all one really needs to do is give the rich another tax break and the middle class will work for free.
Now they get it? Finally? Nah. They are just so tired of being afraid of Trump and his Alt-Right that they are having momentary lapses into reality. It won’t last any longer than this shutdown is over and Trump starts a new one in a few months.
