There he is. The immature, hyper partisan dude who was one of the ‘House Managers’ of the Impeachment effort against President Bill Clinton. He seemed to have moderated, grown up, and at times almost had an air of a ‘statesman’ type senator. But since sometime last winter/Spring, as he started toadying around Trump - glimpses of the old Lindsey became more and more common. Now - he’s the same guy at 1998 - all the warts are back.
Another person who attended the school w/Kavanaugh (correction: she attended Holton Arms the girls school. He attended Georegetown Prep, but it appears the two schools did have some common events and common social interaction outside of regular class time), Judge and Blasey Ford has written a post on Facebook telling that she and many others at the school were contemporaneously aware that the incident took place and it was talked about among many. The Vanity Fair piece from last night which highlighted Trump being urged to cut bait on Kavanaugh based on pressure from Ivanka alluded to new corroborating evidence coming out this week.
At the time I was puzzled because Blasey Ford told no one about it. But now, here it is. It appears that either independent reporters (who later informed WH or Javanka), or the WH’s own oppo team, have done their own investigation. They have struck pay dirt and have hid it from the people. However, it’s now out in the open. Others are willing to say on the record that Kavanaugh was involved in an assault incident. This is bigly.
This is the letter, posted on Facebook, from a woman who knew Kavanaugh, Judge and Blasey Ford and claims that the attack did happen, that "many of us heard about it in school," and that it was talked about for days afterward. The FBI should interview her and others. pic.twitter.com/OZmEGP1Q1G
Obviously, I would love it if the Cristina King Miranda tweet/Facebook comment were legit and led to an avalanche of corroboration for Blasey Ford’s account, but I think we need to take a wait-and-see attitude. I’m increasingly worried (as was someone else on here) that it could be some sort of ratfuck designed to get us all out on a limb so that the GOP can say “Ha!” when the lead turns out to be bogus. The person who posted the account appears to have deleted it and now claims to be clamming up. Weird.
Kava’nah’ had problems before this arose. They did not have 50 votes the minute before this came out. The woman is credible. She deserves to be heard. Her credibility has increased because she wants a FBI inquiry.
So just why, Lindsey, is it so crucial that the confirmation not be delayed? If Kavanaugh is a thoroughly qualified candidate, you can confirm him after the midterms just as easily as now. It wouldn’t make any difference to the session in which he joins the court. The only difference is whether you and your fellow senators will have more information on which to base your vote.
I dont have FB but if the person claimed to have “attended the school w/Kavanaugh, Judge and Blasey Ford,” they attended separate all boys and all girls schools.
I read this same thing all the time every time there is an issue that the Democrats need to stand up on. That isn’t what is happening and there is no point in thinking that somehow on every issue we’re going to get trapped. We just need to stand up for what’s right and what’s right is this accusation gets investigated.
I understand. I went to an all male Jesuit Jr High-High School, and although I had no weekend visitations with people from the geographically proximate female catholic schools (because I did not have children with them under a joint custody with visitation provision, or ever have a visitation by a deceased saint) or anything officially called beach week, I understand the concept. I was suggesting, given the suspicions that the deleted FB posting was not legit, that there might be a sort of basic mistake in it.
To be clear, at this juncture, I’m all in favor of holding out for an FBI investigation in advance of any testimony by Blasey Ford (i.e., not capitulating to Grassely’s apparent ultimatum). The case for Blasey Ford’s insistence on an investigation was, to my mind, unassailable even before the whole Cristina King Miranda message popped up, so I don’t mean to be wobbly on the FBI investigation point just because I have concerns about the reliability of the King Miranda message.
As you observe, the GOP has the power to confirm nominees unilaterally for several months still.
The one thing that will change in short order is the news cycle. Once Kavanaugh is confirmed, the zero-attention-span media will move on to e.g. the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by Florence, the ongoing dispute over the death toll in PR, renewed skepticism about North Korea, etc etc etc.
Graham knows that the GOP hold on power is so shaky that the slim advantage afforded by a fait accompli could be the deciding factor on this, and any, effort of the Koch Oligarch Network.
He wants us to stop talking about it, bend over, and let his old, white buddies move on to the next sodomy.
I agree with your assessment, but I dispute Mitch’s. It’s much better for him and his cronies long-term if they get K on the Court now.
Mitch can’t see further than his own ego. He won’t even commit in a “selfless” way to the tiny gang of rapacious sociopaths whose goal is, like his, to stay in power. I really cannot wait for Mitch McConnell to die.
Republicans previously held open a seat for over a year. Not exactly sure why Graham feels it is imperative to rush this.
Tis, ‘One rule for thee, another for me,’ a persistent party line which has led me to see the actions in this Reactionary dominance of the government as a kind of soft coup.
It could also be that they’re just getting their yah yahs out by abusing power over others because they can, but I suspect that’s part of the background, and not in the foreground, of their motivations.
Since I know a few folks (including myself) have been following this, the Cristina King Miranda story eventually bubbled its way up to NBC. Their reporting doesn’t really add any new details beyond what was provided by the earlier social media posts, but it does pretty much confirm that the individual is in fact a real person and a 1983 graduate of Holton-Arms, whereas I had previously been really wondering about the whole authenticity/provenance question. So there’s still the problem of her clamming up, but this seems to address earlier concerns (on the part of myself and others) that the whole thing might turn into a repeat of the GWB National Guard records fiasco.
ETA: Commenter on the other thread noted the important point that a ratfucker could have simply appropriated the name of a contemporaneous Holton-Arms alumna, so the whole thing remains difficult to gauge.
Like she gives a rip about your disgusting fetish for lying and angling for political advantage…weasel should be given weasel treatment…who can believe this dick on any issue.
