I’ve been following the thread on the Palin story. Now this is a real
misogynist.

code for “don’t worry your pretty little head” and “just leave it to the
men to take care of you.”
I have no problem with an all-male any kind of gathering but to
suggest that women-only meetings are just “lingerie showers”
while men have real “issues to discuss” is blatantly chauvinistic.
Unfortunately, I live in Southerland’s district and he is your typical,
old white man, privileged, racist Neanderthal. Also, unfortunately
the GOP has gerrymandered this district so that the liberals in
Tallahassee are outnumbered by the rednecks in the piney woods
of the Panhandle.
BTW, I have occasionally enjoyed an after-dinner cigar and rather
like a Black Jack and Coke from time to time.

Ironically enough, at the Gator Club games I attend here in Atlanta, its about 50-50…maybe even slightly more women.
So is he saying that the men at this gathering were exchanging, admiring, and perhaps trying on, little lacy things?

Too sadly this kind of man is often the impetus for an amount of vitriol that can only be likened to someone who is racist and intolerant of differences between the sexes, between the races and between those who are sexually enamored of the same sex.
It seems that Southern legislators have a penchant for trumpeting their intolerance of “the other.” Very few of the legislators from the North and West are this way. They have a different viewpoint of the way that people live. No one should subject others to this kind of intolerance, yet the Republicans continue to foist their intolerance on others for the sole purpose of denigrating someone who thinks differently than they do.
Is that like soap on a rope? Maybe a steamy bath?

BTW, did the invite really say “Tell the misses…” or did someone
transcribe this statement from a verbal quote? If it actually says
misses, then his staff is not very bright (well, I guess that’s a given, but…).
Misses would indicate a group of unmarried women. The term they
intended is missus, which is a patronizing term for a wife, akin to
“the little woman,” or “the old lady.” It’s not quite as bad as “the old
ball and chain” but it is dismissive and condescending.
what you didn’t see was southerland’s campaign manager strangling him/herself offstage, while this was going on. gee, I sure hope rep. southerland continues, publicly & loudly, to demonstrate why he isn’t a sexist pig.
