I doubt a transgender woman can win in North Carolina, but Wendy Ella May is committed to fighting for fellow veterans and people with disabilities. On the other hand, maybe people will be less susceptible to culture war bullshit about sex predators when they meet actual transgender Americans who’ve bled for their country.

I’ll be interested to hear from our AZ commenters, but my sense is that there are a lot of conservatives in AZ who are basically Romney-McCain republicans (retired businessmen, golf-oriented types) and will not vote for a nutjob like Kelli Ward, who moreover began publicly drooling for McCain’s seat as soon as his illness was announced. Let’s remember that Arpaio eventually got voted out. I suppose a key factor will be the Democratic candidate, and again I don’t have a sense of who that might be. EDIT: Also, Hillary only lost to Trump by 4-5 pts. A reasonably large blue swing and that’s another blue senator.
Sinema is openly bisexual and an atheist. It’s going to be an uphill battle for her if she isn’t facing off against Ward or Arpaio.
Of all the whacked out modern conspiracy beliefs, chemtrails have to top the list.
She’s nuts!
“FUCK LIBRULS!!!”
There you go. She’ll get elected. It’s Arizona.
Have faith. I listened to an interview recently between David Axelrod and the Governor of Washington State, and the Governor, who is a Democrat, said that the result of having the current shitshow is that good, quality Democrats are coming out and getting ready to run for elected office all over the country.
That’s just the beans.
I like her already!
She’ll likely face Ward—who comes off as considerably to the right of Attila the Hun and as unbalanced as Charles Manson.
It won’t be an easy campaign, but I am of the opinion that Sinema has a decent chance.
Do you remember that female nutjob who ran for Senate (I think) in Nevada? She got trounced.
We’re there! You can wake up now.
Sharron Angle—she of the “second amendment solutions.”
If her brain were turned into explosives, she couldn’t blow the wax out of her ears.
Yes! That was her. Thank you.
Another intellectual giant heard from. Is this the best the fraidy cat GOP can do?
Look at it this way- Trump has made the GOP so toxic not even Jan Brewer would fit in.
Agreed: but what if Ward wins the primary? You’re in toss-up territory, especially in a midterm.
And people ask what’s the matter with Kansas…
Who knew that osteopaths now treat “swampitis”?
Sinema is also pretty conservative for a Democrat, from Wikipedia:
After [Sinema’s] election to the House of Representatives she joined the conservative Blue Dog Coalition and the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus. She is a centrist on liberal-conservative scales. In September 2014, she was endorsed for re-election by the United States Chamber of Commerce, becoming one of five Democrats to be endorsed by the Chamber in the 2014 congressional election cycle. In 2015 and 2017, she did not vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House and voted 73% with the majority of her own party.
So I guess Sinema might be able to get some center-right voters to vote for her, although I can’t say I’m excited by her House voting record.
Nevada is significantly more liberal than AZ.
