Discussion for article #229278
Apparently, Islam is the new Communism. McCarthyism is alive and well in the USA. I’d be willing to predict that internment camps of Muslims, a la the Japanese during WWII, are not far away. I wasn’t alive during the 50s, but i have a regretfull feeling that i’m about to live through that decade, all over again.
To sensible Republicans out there, paranoia is a treatable psychiatric illness. History is a very valuable subject, especially if you choose public service as a career. The Bill of Rights cannot be reserved for only a few American citizens, but must be upheld for everyone. The rule of law is established by a democratic process here in America. Inciting violence against the federal government is a felony. Be careful with your choice of words. Fear is not a positive value, and is not a sensible basis for the formulation of policy.
Can you imagine waking up every morning being this afraid and paranoid?
I can’t.
I know where one radical is…he happens to represent a district in Iowa.
I call for immediate and 24/7 surveillance of this anti-American subversive.
Interesting that he didn’t call for “all out surveillance” of Irish-Americans during The Troubles. Oh, that’s right, he was supporting the IRA then. Guess the IRA were different terrorists.
If homegrown terrorism is a real threat, it might be prudent to tighten restrictions on buying guns in general and certain types of guns in particular. (Rolls eyes and whistles innocently.)
All the technology in the world won’t save us from the idiots in the Republican Congress or from being the world laughingstock because of their shameful terror pimping.
Newsmax! Hah!!!
If the guy in Ottawa had gotten a semi-automatic, he might have killed more people, but those are very difficult to get in Canada.
That said, I think the main radicalization is from jihadist websites, not mosques. As far as I am aware, virtually all the Westerners who have gone to join ISIS or tried to got their information on line, not from anyone in their communities.
I think serious consideration should be given to blocking websites that recruit for ISIS or incite violence at home… Yes that’s censorship, but child porn sites are blocked and I think sites that incite murder should be too. Before anyone asks, “What about right-wing loon sites?” If they incite murder, sure, block them too.
“The fact is we have to find out what people are thinking”
Dude just literally said we need Thought Police. Wow. Watching his farce of a run in 2016 is going to be hilarious. I have a good feeling he’s going to provide me with lots of material.
We need to start monitoring Rep King…he may go on a terroristic rampage any time soon by terrifying people about innocent civilians…people will piss their pants and start sealing off their basements until they die from lack of oxygen!
I can, but only because I did a clinical psych degree for undergrad and spent time helping take care of people who woke up in the morning this afraid and paranoid.
Sigh…where to begin. You can’t educate a man like Steve, err, ah, Peter King, and he speaks to those who will fight to resist any sort of enlightenment with all their might. I suppose all the death threats and attempted murder of Gays and Abortion providers just doesn’t count as something to be concerned about. It’s just the folks that LOOK different that we must persecute.
Very much agreed. The Ottawa shooter had a lever-action shotgun, formidable shot for shot but much slower to fire than a military-style rifle or any semi auto weapon. You can’t get military-style rifles in Canada, from what I’ve read, and magazines are strictly limited to five rounds. The sergeant-at-arms used a weapon kept in a lockbox to stop the attack. And yet, somehow, Canada survives as a nation! Might be a lesson there.
I’m not an expert on censorship law but the comparison to child porn is a good one. I doubt that encouraging people to murder is entirely protected speech. There are people whose disordered minds are pretty much the equivalent of a crowded theater.
But so long as you’re a white, Irish terrorist, it’s OK with Peter King. YA ignorant, bigoted man, bespoiling the reputation of Congress and embarrassing his constituents and his country. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? The apparent answer is a resounding “No.”
I bet this reject from “Grease” has fuzzy dice hanging from his rear view mirror.
Wrong King. This idiot is from Long Island, Steve King is from Iowa. I understand your confusion, because they are both paranoid bigots.
Yes. This is why it is always interesting listening to King about this. He was such a supporter of the IRA, and mostly refused to denounce their terrorism when it happening against the US’s stalwart ally, the UK.
He only changed his positions when the IRA started saying bad thing about the US.
That said, I think the main radicalization is from jihadist websites, not mosques.
That’s exactly what happened in all the “lone wolf” incidents I’m aware of. As is typical for Republicans, King is just making stuff up about mosques being “incubators” of terrorism.
My bad. Sorry Steve, to lump you in with other ignorant crazy Republicans.
