āIāve asked God to forgive me because thatās the most important thing,ā Bentley reportedly said. āI want back in His fellowship. And so I asked God to forgive me.ā
He could just step down and ask God instead for a Lamborghini.
Is it illegal for the governor to have an affair in Alabama? Has it ever happened before? If so, did impeachment follow?
Just curious as to the grounds for impeachment here.
āIf He Truly Lovesā State
Does the state have breasts he can touch and a behind he can rub?
So, in retrospect, buying burner phones on the public dime⦠not one of his better ideas?
Iām wondering the same thing.
Donāt get me wrong, this guy disgusts me. He runs on a traditional family values platform and then cheats on his wife with a subordinate? Normally I say leave people alone. As long as they arenāt misusing public funds or their positions, then I donāt care who you sleep with. But in this case I think itās kind of fair game as when you run as a traditional family values Christian, and you have an affair, it makes you a hypocrite and a liar. I donāt know. This one kind of pulls me in both directions from the āheās a hypocrite he deserves it and people should knowā to my ālaissez faire social libertarianā side.
But, notwithstanding all that, shouldnāt it be left to the voters to decide? Since when is creating a scandal an impeachable offense? What if a politician sends a racy/nude photo to a significant other and it leaks? Thatās scandalous and creates a distraction, but itās not hypocritical. Should they be subject to impeachment?
When did this country start being populated with so many sanctimonious aholes?
Maybe he can go hike the Appalachian Trail with that other Southern family values luv guv.
Shopping at Best Buy instead of Amazon. Their prices suck.
The woman who he texted apparently had financial dealings with the state, conflict of interest usual nonsense, and he enabled some of it. Maybe.
More has gone on than sex talk, or the GOP wouldnāt be so concerned down there.
When did the Pilgrims get here?
This is what I found. Very much like⦠Alabama.
From the Alabama Constitution, Artickle VII, Section 173:
The governor, lieutenant-governor, attorney-general, state auditor,
secretary of state, state treasurer, superintendent of education,
commissioner of agriculture and industries, and justices of the supreme
court may be removed from office for willful neglect of duty, corruption
in office, incompetency, or intemperance in the use of intoxicating
liquors or narcotics to such an extent, in view of the dignity of the
office and importance of its duties, as unfits the officer for the
discharge of such duties, or for any offense involving moral turpitude
while in office, or committed under color thereof, or connected
therewith, by the senate sitting as a court of impeachment, under oath
or affirmation, on articles or charges preferred by the house of
representatives.
In the real world, heād be toast. But this is Aladamnbama, where the Speaker of the House is staring down 23 felony ethics charges and needs Bentleyās help, and his trial would be presided over by Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has his own sorry history. Who knows?
No I canāt prove what he did wrong, or even express it in standard English without sounding stupid. But if he loved me, he would go away.
The governor said Monday that he had asked God for forgiveness and gave āno signsā he intended to resign, according to MSNBC.
ā¦Weāll there you have. See this is the most important function of religion , when you betray others just say" I ask Jesus for forgiveness and he said Okay". Case closed .
āIāve asked God to forgive me because thatās the most important thing,ā
It says a lot about the fundamental moral of fiber of people when they, almost immediately after being caught, ask so passionately for forgiveness, without considering the profound and often offensive implications of such a response.
In my experience, asking for forgiveness compounds the problem by putting those you have wronged in the position of feeling obligated to forgive, whether they want to or not, as they are expected to do, especially in the religious-ethical climate from which so many of us have evolved, and in which we are immersed, thus imposing your unwanted will upon us again.
Further, It imposes this burden without having done anything first to earn that forgiveness, by, for example, making it clear that you understand the nature of the harm youāve caused, why you caused it to happen, how you are solely responsible for all of the harm, and what you plan on doing to ensure that you will cause no further harm.
Get Out Of Jail Free cards are only free for the ones who get them, not for those theyāve harmed.
When a GOPer files to impeach a GOPer, it is a good day.
That damned turpitude will come back to bite you in the ass every time.
