The only excuse is that this might be the kind of caution your lawyer would recommend. I’d have said “Everyone knows what these kinds of messages mean.”
Only other thing I’d observe is that I’m rarely surprised when I see state reps and senators doing awful things. Most of them are just regular dopes. But to see this normalized is really kind of a shock.
