The thing to remember about the finely crushed glass my party and I have been feeding people for years is that it won’t kill them for a while yet. No, no, they’ve got several years of life left before things proceed to the point where the GI tract is shredded beyond repair.
But in the meantime… Anyone hungry? I’ve made you a nice, thick milkshake over here. Please, I insist - you don’t even have to pay for it. In fact, it pays for itself! Just ignore any gritty sensation you may feel as you drink.
Oh, so Trump and republicans can get “credit” for destroying instead of “fixing”?
Fuck that, ron. They’ve had at least eight years, and all they have to show for it is the tax cuts to the richest and Trump’s Cabinet, most of whom have sold us off to the highest bidder.
Trump is merely the vessel through which all republican, country-killing measures are here.
I am from Independence. Truman was one of the first Democratic presidents to crash against the Insurance Industry. I was actively involved in promoting Hillarycare during the Clinton administration. I studied both Hillary and Obama’s versions of Dolecare. I applauded when Obamacare was passed, but knew it was a stopgap. I was dismayed when the Republicans convinced more than 1/2 of the country that there were death panels in the bill and was horrified when the Obama Administration hired CGI to role it out. (Remember that–those Canadians fucked up Obama’s chance to really sell the program. You will never convince me that wasn’t a deliberate sabotage by the insurance industry.)
Now my daughter and grandson are having a hell of a time getting insurance because she is a full time student, trying to get ahead. Big pharma is still raping the American people.
I would prefer single payer (even if you call it Medicare For All) but I want to get something done while we can get it done. I am sick of turning real problems into campaign issues only.
The leverage that Schumer and Pelosi have is that in any CR they can demand that the mandate penalty be increased to $1, which effectively invalidates the core of this decision even without having to address it on its poor merits.
I don’t know what it would even take to bring that about. Do you? Talk is cheap. I’d rather have someone here who can talk about this with some degree of knowledge.
Just saying you want something is not going to cut it. That is Bernie Sanders’ problem and anyone like him.
How? What will it take to do this? people act like it’s a simple solution when it’s anything but.
Olympia Snowe had the sense to get out a few years ago as she saw what the GOP really is, and has been. Collins can’t let go of power, she always caves on her supposedly “moral” first stance.
So the Republican for public consumption take on this is we’re not in favor of screwing you? You’d have to be one of Trump’s stupids to not be able to follow the paper trail on this.
Oh there will one or two still left in the Senate, you can’t stamp out willful ignorance. We can only try to make it as small as possible, so small we can drown it in a bathtub. But it will still leave a ring.
But House Republican leaders are also confronting a more mundane and awkward problem: Their vanquished and retiring members are sick and tired of Washington and don’t want to show up anymore to vote.
Call it the revenge of the lame ducks. Many lawmakers, relegated to cubicles as incoming members take their offices, have been skipping votes in the weeks since House Republicans were swept from power in the midterm elections, and Republican leaders are unsure whether they will ever return.
