Discussion for article #224020
Do they really want to shutdown the Government a month before the mid-terms? Don’t they remember what happened to their approval ratings the last time they shutdown the Government? Of Course not.
Well, remember that last time they shrugged it off and started screaming about the glitches on healthcare.gov and the media followed right along and within two weeks the dip they took in the polls vanished.
So my guess would be that quite a few of them think they can pull this off, easy. In fact, there are probably some that are lobbying that it will enhance their standings.
But two things to consider: First, environmental issues as the main topic of national conversation is a sure loser for republicans. The places that conversation can go are places republicans do NOT want voters going.
Secondly, given that these are EOs that can easily be overturned by the next President, the fact that republicans are willing to even publicly consider such drastic, electorally risky, strategies says that they realize they have very little hope of taking the WH in 2016.
Please, Mr Republican, please don’t throw your chances of ever again wielding political power into the cesspool of your own rank stupidity!
So what happens when the GOP runs out of feet to shoot themselves in?
OMG, the Kenyan clean air Commie…Waterghazi!!!
Oh, yeah! Shut down the government a month before mid-terms! Oh, it’s not just a “Please proceed” moment – it’s a “Please please PLEASE proceed” moment!
If it’s too early to know if Republicans will withhold support for funding the government unless Democrats agree to block EPA rules then why write a piece about them doing that very thing?
They’ve still got legs, right?
Uhhhhhhhhh… Because they’re talking about it, and that’s kind of what early reporting looks like?
I agree. It’s much better to let it come as a complete surprise in September. Much like why bother to read about potential terrorist attacks that might not happen in August when you can wait and see if they actually happen.in September. Have you ever heard the expression “Forewarned is forearmed”?
They must be using Romney’s pollsters who are telling them the voters, in particular the young voters, really hate that damn environment and want to see it destroyed. This seems like a great way show how productive you can be as a party.
“… if you want to send a clear message to the administration about a series of regulations that you think are very detrimental, one way to do that would be through the appropriations process…”
A better way is email. It doesn’t screw up the economy in a time of war, but then Republicans have a history of abandoning our military.
Ever Yertle the Turtle
So, let me get this straight - unpolluted water is a danger to agribusiness? Wrap your head around that logic if you can…
“I’m a manufacturer. You actually need power if you’re going to manufacture things,” he said. “Let’s not drive, artificially, the cost of power up – that’s a self-inflicted would. That’s what this administration is doing and I have no idea why they’d want to do that.”
If you are right, how about, instead of using economic terrorism to get your way, you try to persuade the electorate you are right, and seek to win an election?
If early Republican enthusiasm is any indication, the upcoming Sept. 30 deadline to keep the federal government open could turn into an all-out war over President Barack Obama’s executive actions to combat climate change.
Oh, I do hope so. Please, pretty please.
I love the way republicans make the exact same mistakes over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
Ohhh … bring it! Bring it! If they want to start the fall campaign by shutting down the government so that we can continue doing NOTHING about climate change, they should totally go for it. Nothing would bring into clearer focus exactly what this election is about, or do a better job of building the turnout that Democrats need to win.
Of course, you are missing the true deviousness of this strategy. It ranks right up there with Steve Martins football strategy…punt on 3rd down, nobody will expect it.
‘It’s just a flesh wound.’
