They don’t call him “The Dumbest Man in the Senate” fer nothin’ ya know. Ya gotta earn it.
Mish-mash, mish-mash. has the distinct smell of desperation. Go, Feingold!
I’ve heard that McCain may very well be primaried because his constituents increasingly see him as being too *liberal. (*Yeah, I know.) So it won’t be him. Despite what others have said, I just don’t see Toomey losing his seat in PA (especially against Sestak!) so I don’t think he has that much to lose by fighting any nom.
Collins and Ayotte strike me as persuadable because NH still has some sane people left that they have to appeal to.
He is an idiot and at this point is running scared. His opponent Russ Feingold is ahead in every poll. In some cases by double digits. Here are some recent poll results. http://tinyurl.com/hqpm8c7 RoJo has done nothing to distinguish himself during his time in the Senate. Recently he again exposed himself as a real intellectual lightweight. When attempting to comment on Justice Scalia’s passing he use a picture of an actor that played Scalia in recent production. His first comments regarding replacing Scalia were rushed to press. Now he has to walk it back. He always open his mouth before putting his mind in gear. He will not be missed.
This is for the voters back home where Russ Feingold is way ahead in the polls.
“Yer outta yer fucking element, Ronny!!”
“I strongly agree that the American people should decide the future direction of the Supreme Court by their votes for president”
They did that on November 7, 2012 for the period covering from January 20, 2013 until the next elected POTUS finishes her oath on January 20, 2017.
There is simply no other answer to this nonsense. The Dems should have the fucking balls to give up on saving these arguments for themselves at some later date when they’ve decided it’s convenient for them to be ridiculous and just jam the correct fucking argument down these assholes’ throats. There’s no “it might backfire later” about it. The Constitution is crystal fucking clear about this. The use of the word “SHALL” in the Appointments Clause…twice…the POTUS “shall nominate” and “shall appoint”…is not ambiguous.
The logic there is just bad. I sort of get what they are going for but it really does not make a ton of sense. Shouldn’t the American people always have a say? They picked the people in power now? What makes the current people less legit than new incoming people would be? It is basically saying that this election year does not count.
Howell then told Johnson, “I think you wind up looking as a party like petulant children if you don’t put it up for a vote.”
“So you put it up for a vote and vote an individual down,” Johnson replied. “I don’t think there’s much political difference one way or another.”
Actually Senator, there is a huge difference.
And be wary of this. If the GOP/Teatrolls realize that the best way to avoid the damage this situation has the potential to do to them is to hold hearings, debate and a vote, all the while doing a good job of looking at least somewhat reasonable about the process but voting “nay” regardless, then we could very well lose the potential advantage this offers. Such a move would also give them cover for simply delaying the whole process such that we get only one shot, and one that we know is going nowhere.
Yeah, I giggled too when I saw I was typing “doing a good job of looking somewhat reasonable about the process,” but stranger things have happened. The greater likelihood is that they continue to bray like gelded mules, but you never know.
I suspect the equation here is:
“running for re-election this year” in a blue state + this right wing bullshit “a liberal activist justice” = " I have no idea how the process plays out" bullshit.
Sen. Johnson, by his recent contradictory statements, is like a Walleye pike, recently caught, and on the dock flip flopping around trying to land in a comfortable position. He’s feeling the heat from Feingold’s quest for his seat.
If we had the equivalent of George Patton (without the anti Semitism and the racism, of course)…then the thing to do is to get oppo research on those GOP Senators vulnerable for re-election.
Then throw everything (including the kitchen sink) at 'em with ads making Cruz look like Saint Nick.
If they even THINK about voting against Obama’s SCOTUS nominee.
@ahduff Fear the Feingold!
Yes, yes and yes. It could have been predicted (and a few of us did straight away) that those squishes up for election this year would go home and think it over before they impetuously followed Turtle down this road to nowhere. Self preservation rules.
And guess which bi-racial Kenyan-Muslim gentleman is highly aware of what both of you know?
[all without fanfare, of course… ]

Don’t think he means the actual process, just how the leadership is going to handle this case. Though it is interesting that the majority leader making a politicized decision is now referred to as part of “the process” rather than the aberration that it is.
The president’s opponents underestimate him at their peril. His cool, unruffled manner with no melodramatic outbreaks are what might make him seem to be not on top of his game, and they are very mistaken.
Actually, at this point, North Carolina and Wisconsin are a lot more alike, from an electoral demographic standpoint, than many think. Both are deep purple states now, whether any Democrat in Wisconsin wants to admit it or not. Both are run by Koch proconsuls and ALEC puppets. NC is a bit redder, Wisconsin a bit bluer but they’re converging rapidly
Their line of reasoning is frighteningly stupid. The simple rebuttal is that a president is elected for a four year term. Not 3 and their duties are suspended during an election year. Would Republican logic still hold if we are attacked? Russia bombs LA in February of an election year so we should wait until after the new president is confirmed to do something about it.See how fucking stupid that notion is? So here, the President has the obligation to nominate. What happens after that is on the Senate. If that want to be petulant little titty babies, that is not Obama’s fault. Its just how they were raised.
Kirk from Illinois, who is also facing a tough re-election(and will also probably lose) is taking a similar tact. One by one, we are seeing the vulnerable republican Senators inching away from McConnell on this…and it hasn’t even been a week since Scalia died.
Hell, Grassely is even trying to hide his obstruction behind the facade of seeming reasonable. There is no way they can hold out for 10 months, right smack dab in the middle of an election cycle.
