Discussion: GOP Retirement Alert: NJ Rep. LoBiondo Driven Out By 'Political Polarization'

Dammit, man, don’t get in the way of the media narrative that if Northam doesn’t win tonight then Democrats will lose terribly in 2018 and beyond. Don’t get in the way of the far left narrative that unless they take over the party (which they could if they bothered showing up to primaries) we can only ever possibly lose. They have their narratives to maintain.

I’d put those results under power of incumbency. In office since 1992, delivered the goods for the district, and never drew strong opponents.

2nd District voted for Trump, but generally favors Ds. I couldn’t find registration by CD.

Pretty Much Alabama, love it.

Blue voters mostly in the cities of Salem, Millville and Bridgeton. Outside those cities it’s Red. Generally low population density. Lots of produce farms and cows.

It’s absolutely ripe for the picking. Some of these R districts only even have an R lean because of a long term congressperson who is popular despite their party affiliation.

Such was the case here with Anne Northup. Her district kept her around because people liked her and her family, but as the district moved left she couldn’t survive politically anymore.

Large Latino and black populations in the cities I mentioned above. Unfortunately a large fraction of the Latino community is migrant farm labor.

NJ-11 may be possible although I don’t see the incumbent retiring, and it has very different demographics. Much denser, and highly affluent demos. The Dem might be better off running as anti-Trump as much as anything else.

Is that not amazing. He had a line in the sand so to speak.

Of course, this is a Republican who can foresee the shitstorm over the tax bill in his state. He loses either way so … of crawl away cockroach (apologies to cockroaches).

I cannot agree more strongly. I live in VA and I cannot hear “this is a referendum on the country” pundit anymore. I think Northam will win; that being said, your average voter can’t even tell you who own their governor is, let alone portend anything for the future. Enough already.

I showed that Townsend picture, because while I know that there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate, it ‘kills’ me that the catalyst that putting these districts in play is a thrice married ‘billionaire’ winning the ultimate lottery.

I can get understand if LoBiando’s district was a +5, because it would explain why he has his day job, but +1 ?

Uggh

If the Democrats are smart and play to win they could take this - but they have to avoid giving the opportunity to somebody who has just ‘waited for their turn’ - or is calling in favors. - or going with some flashy - but seriously flawed - weak option just because they could fund their own campaign

"Today a vocal and obstinate minority within both parties has hijacked good legislation in pursuit of no legislation.”

Translation: Democrats are no longer giving in to us on everything. I thought that when we had both houses and the presidency, they wouldn’t be able to resist, and there would be so much winning. But nooooooo!! Screw this. I’m outa here.

Paul a RINO? That’s being too kind. When Ryan says such unadulterated shit as “Those Critical Of Church Shooting Response ‘Don’t Understand’ Faith” it goes to some other and clever place of evil.

understand that a good portion of this district is mentally southern - rural and - if they are thinking of a large city to feel connected to it is more like Baltimore than Philadelphia or New York

I just heard on the teevee that even if he does win tonight, if it’s because of northern Virginia, it doesn’t count and Democrats better just watch out.

A lot of us in NJ-11 hope the worthless Rodney Freilinghuysen hits the road, too, and saves us the trouble.

‘…both parties.’ Did you actually say that?

Maybe but Philadelphia dominates the local TV news and radio market across the district all the way to the South Jersey shore towns.
