Republicans continually invent discrimination whenever they can - FIFY
Oh, brother. When we hear about an instance of voter fraud, it almost always involves a republican.
Nice try though.
In fact, this Wisconsin republican liked voting so much, he voted multiple times in the same elections.
Bad boy.
Bravo! Sensenbrenner is an old school Republican. His kind rarely get elected or reelected these days.
As far as I can tell, the entire Republican Party canāt agree on anything at all, except that Obama should be a one-term president, which they are hilariously still trying to accomplish. If the above is your idea of reasoned argument, you probably wonāt get many takers here. Actually, I should, and do, apologize to everyone for responding to you.
And iirc, Sensenbrenner was always pretty right-wing. To be fair, heās also been on the voting rights issue for some time. I guess itās just continuing evidence how far around the bend the Tea Party movement has driven the GOP. Iām not crying about it, mind youā¦
āEnsuring that every eligible voter can cast a ballot without fear,
deterrence and prejudice is a basic American right,ā Sensenbrenner

Looks to me like you missed the shady goings on in Maricopa county during the recent presidential preference election in Arizona. Around Phoenix in 2014 there were some 200 polling places whereas thus time it was 60. People waited up to 6 hours to vote. Many were told āindependents canāt voteā when their voter ID showed republican or democrat. They were denied. And it wasnāt just a few but hundreds. It was really screwed up. This shit happens across the country. Voter suppression is an old old story giatny. You ought to wake up to it. Take a look to see how congressional districts are drawn to exclude or include certain voters. The gameās rigged and has been for decades.
Although Sensebrenner has been for this for a while, it may also be a sign that heās worried about a wave election and wants to put something as centrist as possible in place before that happens.
Jim Sensenbrenner is a rally decent guy. If heād been around in 1856 heād have been one of the āRipon (WI) Republicansā who formed the anti-slavery party as a first step toward the enfranchisement of African-Americans. His NYT piece is entirely consistent with his career.
Ticket-splitting is a long time Wisconsin tradition and plenty of Badger-voters will be prepared to vote for Sensenbrenner and other down-ticket Republicans, while either voting for the Dem nominee or no vote if itās Trump at the top.
Once in a while a halfway sane and decent Republican pops his head up and tries to do the right thing. Of course, this guy will no doubt be primaried by a bagger.
In an article praising 2 WI legislators, why no mention of the crazy stuff going on right now in Wisconson: Voting ID requirement, unfunded educational requirement, and disqualification of Milwaukee IDs as valid identification? Yes, Sensenbrenner is the voice of reason, but why is he only talking about voting rights at the Federal level (without a word from his bully pulpit to Scott Koch - er⦠Walker)?
āHouse Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) had told members of the Congressional Black Caucus that he believes the Voting Rights Act should be restored. However, Ryan reportedly said he would not pressure the judiciary committeeās chairman, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), to take up legislation that would do so.ā

This is demonstrably bullshit. More citizens are disenfranchised by selective Republican voter ID laws than just about any other means they use, including voter caging and list purging. So, no, the GOP only wants citizens who are likely to vote for them.
Davey, Iām a big fan of yours ⦠some of the sharpest political analysis in our community.
In this case, no matter how much I despise Sensenbrenner on the whole, he has advocated for reinstating the VRA from the minute the Roberts court gutted it.
I think that is the singular thing I can thank him for. (Quite frankly, as a WI resident, he stunned me on his support.)
Sounds like this Rep, who let his bill sit around untouched for over a year, is getting re-election jitters.

Todayās republican party would be worse than Hitler if they could get away with it, largely thanks to low info, govt dependent white voters.
Wasnāt it in Pennsylvania where one of the top state repugs bragged about the wonderful effect voter fraud legislation was having on suppressing the minority vote?
