What specifically bothers me isn’t that Gaetz appears to be attempting to tamper with a witness, although of course that’s bad enough. What bothers me is that he’s doing it so openly and blatantly that it can only be read as reflexive.

This isn’t being stuck between a rock and a hard place and deciding skirting the law is the best idea, then doing so in a calculated and clever manner. It’s just a habitual, ingrained disrespect for the idea of law.
