He says he opposes government subsidies. What do you wanna bet this guy voted to subsidize Big Oil and rich farmers? What are the chances that he’ll tell Michigan seniors that they should turn down their subsidized Medicare?
They’ll probably move back to appeals to american greed: tax cuts and removing “crippling” regulations from business.
He’s not saying it hasn’t worked. He’s just saying he wants to get rid of it.
I wonder if a lot of congressional Republicans are just now beginning to wonder if they made a mistake standing firm in opposing instead of fixing Obamacare. Oh, the name Obamacare, that is another mistake entirely. Right now it screams Democrats give a damn about you, Republicans not so much.
Republicans continue to surprise me in how fast they are eating the bitter meal of their anti-Obamacare screed. Can you imagine what it will be like in 2016? The GOP is done.
I often wonder why more dems don’t bring that fact up more often!!!
I don’t know about “many” years – I think it took about three. And that’s pretty much what they have been predicting for ACA as well, in spite of the attempts at obstruction and massive resistance.
“I’ve also met people who are now being helped by being subsidized who say I never want to be subsidized by the government.”
Say what? The reason he advocates repealing ACA is because some people are being helped by subsidies, but they don’t want subsidies? Nobody is forcing them to accept a subsidy. If they’d rather pay more for health insurance than they can afford to pay, they are perfectly free to do so. Or if they would rather go without insurance rather than have a government subsidy help them out, they are perfectly free to do that as well, but they will be assessed a (presently) modest fine for doing so, which appears fairly easy to evade.
But “because it helps some people who don’t want to be helped” has to be the most ridiculous excuse for wanting to repeal a law that I have ever heard. And that’s all it is – an excuse. It is not a reason. No, the real reason this dufus and others in his party want to repeal a law is because it was proposed by Democrats, and stands to be of long-term benefit to the Democratic party.
In 2016 the GOP will be saying that ACA is their idea. They are already starting to attack ACA from the left by mentioning that ACA is not insuring enough people fast enough. Seriously. These people have no shame.
Reporters should ask for the names of this new Obamacare “victim” category. The “I don’t want my subsidy” group is bound to be pretty small.
Another Republican gobsmacked by Obamacare.
No matter how they backpedal, they will keep trying to destroy this country as a modern democracy.
Once again, the question that we need to ask over and over again is this: What has the Republican Party done for America since 1968 that compares with what the Republican Party has done TO America since 1968.
Holy crap. If you’re on the discussion page, open up the photo above in a new tab. It’s big enough that you can easily count the stars on his flag lapel pin. That’s the size of the actual photo that is being loaded and then resized by your browser.
That thin excuse won’t even fly soon enough. As the people get wiser and the law continues to succeed, excuses won’t work at all.
It will just be, admit you are against because you are a Republican or explain why you are blocking implementation for those in need.
The fear tactics are failing because they are false and they are based on a lie. That game of create a lie then lie about your lie is destined for failure, it’s only a matter of time.
Do you know what Sweden calls Obamacare? The first step to Universal Health Care-------Boom!

"I appreciate the fact that it works for you," he continued. "I'm not saying that it hasn't worked for some people. It just doesn't work for the people that pay me to nip this socialist crap in the bud!"
(Edited for accuracy)
I’ve noticed that, too. it’s insane. There’s a real effort to rewrite history and say “well, the ACA isn’t covering all of the 45-50 million without insurance! (in this, its first six months of existence).” And trying to falsely claim that therefore, the law’s a failure.
Not only did they know, they openly admitted as much during their earlier repeal attempts, especially around the government shutdown. They phrased it differently of course, along the lines of “once people get addicted to government benefits it becomes inpossible to get rid of them, just like Medicare and Social Security”. But the meaning is the same.
No wonder it takes so damn long to load.
I don’t get what the increasing emphasis on the photos is here. It doesn’t really add much to have a big picture, especially when it’s usually just a head shot. In the older version of the site, the picture was only about a third of a screen width, which was plent enough to see the picture and there was a good chunk of text you could read without having to scroll down a page.
OTOH, it’s the original picture, with all the metadata attached. I suppose it’s what’s distributed by the AP, and would be an extra step for TPM to downsize it. Taken on a Canon 1D Mk IV with a 400mm lens, at f/4, 1/250 sec and ISO 800, yet has that sharp resolution? Niccccce…
I have been saying from the gitgo that as soon as the ACA is successful the Repubs will start calling it Republicancare as it was formatted after the Heritage Foundation Plan and Romneycare and they will be accusing the POTUS of stealing their idea. you watch…
so basically, he’s got nothing, and by extension, the GOP has nothing. good to know.
