Discussion: GOP Rep On Syria Decision Video: Trump 'Can't Speak For Fallen American Soldiers'

I agree with you and @micande. Kinzinger stood up and told his personal story, but he told it on Fox. If he went on CNN, or God forbid, MSNBC then it would be better.

The other thing to keep in mind I believe the upcoming Congress will have more vets than any other Congress. (I hope there are not more like Duncan Hunter and Tom Cotton)

ā€œOperation Inherent Resolveā€.

The US military is running out of forceful adjectives! They need new copywriters.

I think Iā€™ll skip that week. Iā€™m not a reptile fan, and I especially donā€™t like XXXXL reptiles that wear red MAGA hats.

Reptile fan here. Iā€™m speaking of real reptiles, not those fake MAGA ones.

Kintzinger was on Morning Joe this morning on MSNBC and told the same story. Kintizinger has always been somewhat of a Trump critic.

I agree. Itā€™s worth considering, also, that the Republicans only marginally expanded their Senate majority in a year that greatly favored them. Moreover, that expansion did not come easily. Perhaps the Republicans are afraid that the plan to ride Trumpā€™s coattails into the future has some serious shortcomings.

Good for him. I think it will be interesting to see how this many incoming vets work together, or not, in the new Congress.

I think when we see the memoirs and history books about this we may find the plan was to go along hoping for a soft landing. That was the plan in 2016. And after he won they thought he could be housebroken. Oh well. This Syria thing isnā€™t good. None of it is good.

As for Mr Graham: he knows exactly where this came from, the same place all those NRA filtered donations came from and heā€™ll wave his finger until the next time he has to actually produce legislation and heā€™ll fall back in line.

Congressman:

Itā€™s Trumpā€™s party now. If you have an ounce of respect for your fallen comrade, LEAVE IT.

Just back from a visit to this guyā€™s Wiki page. He had a good few minutes today because itā€™s easy to criticize the occupant, but the rest of his career, not so much.

Kinzinger was ranked as the 40th most bipartisan member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the 114th United States Congress (and the third most bipartisan member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois) in the Bipartisan Index created by The Lugar Center and the McCourt School of Public Policy that ranks members of the United States Congress by their degree of bipartisanship

Kinzinger voted yes on the 2017 GOP Healthcare Bill, a bill that would repeal major parts of Obamacare

opposes the Dodd Frank Act

opposes late term abortion and the use of federal funds for abortion or health coverage that funds abortion

supports penalizing sanctuary cities

Conviction comes later; weā€™re not done with the investigation part yet.

Quite frankly, i expect there will be so many versions of this disaster, written by so many different people, each with their own POV that the definitive, ā€œofficialā€ version may never be known. Every last moment will be in the eye of the beholder. This subject will cause years and years and decades of fighting within the Texas Board of Education, all arguing over which version should be taught to children.

I wouldnā€™t go by the Texas board but professional historians make the best effort they can to make interpretations of events that hew as closely as possible to what we could think of as a commonsense idea of objective truth. Iā€™ve been a nonfiction writer most of my working life and I know itā€™s a thing you can at least strive for. So donā€™t take too despairing a view of the effort. Some smart people try hard to get it right.

I just came here to post the same thing; the instructions were written in Cyrillic characters. Not just a lousy thief and a con man, heā€™s now proven himself to be in thrall to a foreign dictator. Thereā€™s a word for such behaviorā€¦

Ditto for professional scientists about climate change.

Agree 100%, but if the people with the power to act refuse to listenā€¦

In all fairness, weā€™re probably (hopefully!!!) living through a hiccup in the progress of human civilization. Itā€™s just that this step backward seems a tad bigger than previous steps back in history. But, maybe thatā€™s just because weā€™re underfoot and being stepped on. We will rise again. Nancy just popped her head up. Chuck? Following her lead?

All Iā€™m saying is we stand a good chance of knowing, three years or five years or whatever from now, what the general thinking was behind the scenes in the GOP. This episode will be one of the most intensely researched in history, and enough people will let their hair down when itā€™s all over that weā€™ll have a pretty good idea. Not perfect in every particular but in broad-brush terms pretty close to what actually happened. (Some of it may remain classified for a long time though.)

I hope youā€™re right. I know the attempts will be made, at least.

I appreciate and respect your optimism.

One wonders who is communicating Putinā€™s orders to Individual 1. When a decision like this one comes ā€œout of the blue,ā€ as it were, one simply wondersā€¦
