It’s incredible that it has come to this… with small baby steps the whole of the world order has been put out of balance
Faux News = What is wrong with America
This is a watershed moment.
I propose that all those who in private or public life have been a defender of President Trump can be forgiven if they now confess/convert, so long as they have not been an active co-conspirator.
I propose we all agree to allow these persons to cry on our shoulders as long as it takes to forgive themselves.
Finally, I propose “treason” be commonly used to describe the actions of those who are suspected of conspiring.
Hurd votes like a Republican with Trump and for Trump. I thought he was different but he’s not. He needs to be voted out too.
One has to wonder if anyone in the GOP falls into that category anymore - any of them accepting funds from the NRA, for instance, could be considered as such, no?
I wish TPM would stop covering GOP Reps who say they are fed up, but do nothing.
They wouldn’t have anything to write about.
Sorry, it had to be said.
Freudian slip…
While Tapper is asking why Obama didn’t do more to stop Russian interference in the election, it would be appropriate to ask why Tapper didn’t bother to vote.
They are working to elect Democrats in November.
They are trying not to make Trump’s base eager to vote.
They are being appropriately circumspect and diplomatic.
It’s called playing the long game.
They both want Trump around until November. And if the Democrats get majorities in either chamber, Pelosi and Schumer will be back looking for “bipartisan solutions” again.
And don’t mention “impeachment” unless you include the words “off the table.”
Rep. Will Hurd: “Nevergird what I said. You know what I meant.”
I’ve seen Russian intelligence manipulate many people in my career, and I never thought the US President would be one of them,” Hurd told CNN’s Jake Tapper.
OK ? He lost any credibility I would grant him right there …
Edit: He might mean A Generic President and not Donald, in that case, I forgive him
I understand that and agree with you–but why don’t they play the long game more skillfully? There are lots of ways to craft a statement that succeeds in communicating the dark, disturbing, and historic gravity of the Helsinki fiasco without using the word “treason.” Why they should choose to minimize the significance of what happened (“embarrassing,” as if Trump had worn the wrong tie? Asserting that the whole affair is a huge mystery?) is just not good enough. And if they believe that their negative iconicity means that they can’t speak the truth, they should step down or appoint someone to the position of spokesperson.
Sacha Baron Cohen proved on Sunday Night just how detached Republicans are from the real world. There is nothing that Republicans will not say as long as they have money dangling in front of them.
They are whores. Every last Republican. And they have sold America out.
Aw! C’mon now we are having all the Benedict Arnold republicans with their panties in a wad, trying to distance themselves from Trump. In a few days when its clear that the Trumptards are fine with the Dotard being in Putin’s pocket, Hurd and the rest will go back to demanding the firing of Mueller and the impeachment of Rosenstein.
“Having spent almost a decade as an undercover officer in the CIA, having spent my time here in Congress working with our allies across the world who have to face the Russian menace—I’ve seen Russian intelligence manipulate many people in my career, and I never thought the US President would be one of them,” Hurd told CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Well, it would seem that the logical next statement, or at least the logical next question from a responsible journalist who was awake, would be, "Does this not mean that Donald Trump, if he ever was qualified, is no longer qualified to be President of the United States? And is this not yet another attempt by him to obstruct the Russia-GOP Investigation, to accomplish what he thought he had assured by appointing Sessions as AG, Coats as DNI, Pompeo at CIA (to act in concert with Nunes and Senator Richard Burr) and to totally squelch and suppress the investigation of his Campaign’s collusion with Putin’s Intelligence Agencies?
Sure, whatever asshole.
But you were more than convinced that Obama is a Muslim who often met with the Muslim Brotherhood. And that, right there, is why the Tr*mpian Party (formerly known as the GOP) has such a problem with all of this, because it would mean their 8-year jihad against Obama has boomeranged right back on them and they cannot bear to admit that.
538’s podcast yesterday settled on Toomey as an example Republican in Congress whose reaction to yesterday’s press conference would be telling for whether yesterday was an inflection point. Hurd might be from a district that Clinton won, but note that the transcript for when the HPSCI voted to “release the memo” (February 5) and then not release the countering one yet that Hurd said nothing, walked out of the room at one point, returned, voted along party lines for the three votes that evening; he followed all of that up with a Wapo editorial that was infuriating in its ambition of walking some thin line as a moderate.
Yes – we’re closer to Election Day and:
(1) Beto O’Rourke might help Ortiz Jones with turnout;
(2) Ortiz Jones is a more serious challenger than Hurd’s seen before;
(3) the Trump admin kicked off last year by sending Hurd constituents letters notifying them of an intent to employ imminent domain in order to build the wall on land that they own (specifically, land that would cut off valuable farmland from the Rio Grande); and
(4) there are highway signs between Monterrey, Mexico and the border from Texas border towns trying to persuade the affluent Mexicans in Monterrey to continue to make day trips to shop despite the NAFTA threats.
But, that’s a big about face from five months ago. Also, screw Hurd – Trump was denigrating USIC and threatening to gut the CIA’s budget in the first week of January 2017 in response to its conclusion that Russia mettled with intent to help him.
Cram them all in one big article about the empty words of Republicans, update as needed, assemble it all in one big list of shame. There can be new articles when someone actually does something.
Kinda like this idea, actually.
