Discussion: GOP Rep Calls For 'Overwhelming Force' Against White House Intruders

Discussion for article #228248

Give the guy a break. He just wants to kick some ass because that’s the 'Merican way

This committee seems to have more than its fair share of drama queens

Well to be fair the intruder didn’t try to grab an agent’s gun, like every single Black man, woman or child ever killed by a cop, seems to do. Or at least the cops SAY they do.

This so-called lawmaker needs to step down immediately. He clearly has no comprehension of what the Constitution says or means. He has no interest in our legal system or process.

Therefore, he has no business pretending to be a lawmaker.

And set aside the fact that it would be totally unfair to the secret service agents to execute people on the white house lawn for jumping a fence. Can you imagine? Most of these people have serious mental health issues and should not be executed.

This is the same clown who voted to cut embassy funding for the Benghazi consulate. Another talk out of both sides of his mouth politician.

It’s a crowded, urban environment where every shot fired is a danger to everyone around. Of course they should think twice about shooting an unarmed man, duh!

We cold save gobs o’ cash by down-sizing the
palace guard, mining the White House lawns,
and electrifying all the doors and windows.

I don’t agree that deadly force is necessarily a requirement unless the intruder is obviously armed. However, there are at least 4 appendages that a single or even two shots won’t instill so much pain that the person is handicapped from any rapidity across the lawn. Josh’s editorial that they should NEVER use deadly force is as much an overreaction as this clown’s is in the other direction.

The Secret Service snipers on the roof of the White House can shoot the paws off a field mouse at up to 1000 yards. That’s why the are snipers. Because they can aim and hit a target that is moving a long way away. I do agree with this Congressman that once someone enters the White House grounds, they should immediately go to “Red Alert” in the security detail and shooting anyone in the leg that is trying such a stunt wouldn’t kill them, but it would surely stop them in their tracks. Deadly force should only be a requirement if the intruder is clearly armed. Being armed changes the entire calculus.

I also disagree with Josh that extending the perimeters around the White House are anti-democratic. The further someone has to run to get close enough to do any real damage, the better. Simply extending the perimeters is much, much different than closing the White House to visitors. Now THAT would be anti-democratic. But making someone go farther to get access, particularly unauthorized access, is just plain common sense.

Jason Chaffetz was mildly amusing on Better Know A District, but now that I better know Jason Chaffetz I think he is a bloviating moron who may unfortunately be around for the long haul thanks to gerrymandering. What. A. Tool.

I always love it when Chaffetz opens his mouth, he shows how feable repugs are. He’s trying to be the next Michael Grimms.
