I don’t mean to further depress people but the question that needs to be asked and answered right now is what are they authorized to do when traumatized caged children start “acting out”? I will need to go back and look for reference but I saw mention today that they are being “restrained” with antipsychotics. I’ve been close to throwing up seeing news so many times lately, I may have to have start keeping a bucket nearby.
ETA: is anyone else seeing the through-line with how we treat the most vulnerable Americans here? Mass incarceration, the over medication of low income youth and disproportionate punishment meted out to black kids in schools with violent cops called on them rather than school counselor and teacher intervention…
Be loud, this is only going to get worse.

We already incarcerate more people per capita than any other country in the world - I say let’s take it right over the top and make sure no one can ever match our record. At what point do we decide that these people will feel better if they are more productive and start making them all work in the fields?

I know someone who was hospitalized for depression a couple of times who read the list of what they were “treating” the kids with and she freaked out. She was actually put on some of the same drugs and described the effects as “horrifying”, mind-numbing, made her catatonic, just unbelievable that they’re treating small children with this stuff, completely out of sight and supervision.
I started the week saying “Shame. On. Us.” but now that good folks are speaking up, it’s just - “Shame. On. Them.”
I will settle for nothing less than charges being brought against lots of people when this nightmare is over and we have sane people running things again.

My first thought when they decided to combine the Labor & Education department was that they were headed for child labor.
Because it’s relevant, I suffered from severe depression all my life. Thankfully it’s well managed now but I spent about 5 years on the “med-go-round” and at one point was prescribed antipsychotics and second what your friend said. These drugs are controversial for children, they do NOT know the long term effects of drugging developing brains this way. These drugs deplete dopamine and IMO should only be given to people while experiencing psychosis or in very exceptional cases for adults with medically diagnosed severe mental illness.
