Discussion: GOP Lawmaker Tries To Use Mars To Prove Climate Change Isn't Real

“But I’ll simply point out that I think in academia we all agree that the earth is flat. Nobody will dispute that.”

In your example, isn’t 1 next to nothing? So statistically then, isn’t 1 equal to nothing? And through extrapolation, isn’t everything equal to nothing?
I may be under thinking this.

As someone who lives in Kentucky, I sincerely apologize for the utter stupidity of our legislators.

Really, this level of stupidity must cause some kind of residual pain, right?

My goodness, another day, another republican says something factually incorrect. Well, factually incorrect to those with a bias in reality. The other RWNJs, not so much.

“A Republican Kentucky state lawmaker and owner of a coal company last
week used dubious claims about Mars to question the reality of climate
change…”

That say it all. Please GOPer, I invite you to spend a few days on balmy Mars–no environmental protection needed.

Would that American news outlets even have equal time to climate scientists.

Was Mr. Smith informed that he made a public fool of himself by someone who he knew or did he have to read it in the paper?

Has he attempted a retraction or correction or is he so clueless he just doesn’t understand that a John Carter is a fictional character and Edger Rice Burroughs lived before modern science firmly established that Mars atmospheric pressure is about 1% of Earth’s, and made up mostly of carbon dioxide? To quote Elton John, “Mars is cold as hell.”

Just as an editorial comment – the -287 and +86 degrees F are not average lows and highs; they’re the extremes of the temperature range.

Smith’s ignorance and stupidity does not surprise me. What is not pointed out in this article is that Smith has denied that he ever said that Mars has the same temperature as Earth. So not only is he ignorant on astronomy, but he dismisses physics and modern electronics because his comment are recorded on video for all to see and hear.

Well damn how about that. We found another world where we can deport all Republicans. Go for it GOP

No churches on Mars. No wars, either.

…coincidence?

My God, even if Mars and earth WERE currently the same temperature what would that prove? If there were in fact some other place in the universe with exactly the same average temperature as earth has at present, that would show that climate change isn’t real??? I know this is a liberal-ly, wonkish thing to bring up, but actually climate change has to do with a CHANGE in temperature on earth.

This is why the ignorant win. Because we give them all the ammo they need to dispute the temperature. On Mars. OMG I wish I was on Mars.

I hope he is on the ‘science’ committee for the party. That’s what they need is more brilliant thinkers like this.

Let’s not forget that Mars is 141 million miles from the Sun, and if you convert miles to kilometers the Earth is 149 million kilometers from the sun. See the numbers are just about identical. No difference here.

However, using his ‘logic’ you could easily extrapolate … well, anything you want.

That’s Herr Doktor Professor Beck, to you, peon.

How do you know they weren’t Raptured?

No, “0” is evil – invented by A-rabs. It’s on the slippery slope to Sharia Law.
