Discussion: GOP Infighting Begins As Clock Ticks To Homeland Security Shutdown

This is just the beginning. The next two years will show the GOP for what it is; tea party flacks with no ability or talent for governing. You gotta love Cruz with the whiny “I told 'em so”. What a useless loser.

Agree, and for all the Republican hatred for Pelosi and Reid, look what they accomplished in Obama’s first two years: a stimulus that averted another Depression, healthcare reform, Lilly Ledbetter Act, credit card reform, student loan reform, Wall Street reform, START II, repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, etc.

Many of these items were controversial, and some passed with not a vote to spare and over the objections of the most ornery, obstructionist opposition party in history.

In contrast, the Republicans can’t even get appropriations bills through their own committees, Boehner continually puts bills on the floor his own party votes down, and the only things they’ve gotten through were must-pass bills submitted just before catastrophe hits and loaded up with enough poison pills to choke a whale.

But to hear them say it you’d think it was some titanic, heroic effort just to keep the lights on and the government doors open.

Disgusting.

“I think it’s clear we can’t go forward in the Senate.”

Karma ran over his dogma.

I imagine Mitch is sitting alone drinking a lot of Kentucky bourbon these days getting a taste of his own medicine probably isn’t sitting too well. He placed so much hope in John and look what he has to show for it.

“Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), whose demands led to the standoff, said it’s only failing because GOP leaders aren’t fighting hard enough.”

Clap harder, people!

Not so. The majority party always has much more power to set the agenda and control debate. There is no way to put lipstick on the 2014 election.

Remember the pundits/posters who thought it would be good for the GOP to take the Senate? They were right. It has become the biggest Republican cluster**** in recent history. What would we do without Cruz? The man is a perfect storm of Republican obnoxiousness turned on this fellow Republicans. The more Republicans prove they can not govern the better it will be for Democrats in 2016.

Sit back, watch and enjoy.

Exactly. And at some point the country will be asking themselves, “Do we really want a Republican president when the GOP can’t even run a competent and responsible government, that addresses the needs of the country?” They’ve now managed to hold a majority in Congress, and out of the gates, what have they got to show for themselves besides more of the same obstinacy and ODS?

So fail away GOoPers…fail away.

McTurtle said he would never again allow for a government shutdown when he took over. That may be true…but a shutdown of DHS will not be much different or much better than that self-inflicted catastrophe. DHS is the largest umbrella agency in the federal government now. They wanted this behemoth, and now they don’t want to fund it unless they can take another hostage to get their way.

Not from the mainstream American media they won’t.

This battle hurts them with the general public and with the one voting bloc they most need to capture for the future…and supplies the '16 Democratic candidate with an easy opening on which to pursue the Latino vote.

Yo soy Jeb Bush, y yo hablo español…

It also shores up Obama’s base

President Obama will not be a candidate in 2016. Since adopting the amendment limiting a President to only two consecutive terms, the party holding the White House has changed hands every two terms (except for Carter’s single term, and the Reagan/Bush three termer).

Can you the GOP actually govern? So, why in the world are they doing this?

The current GOP which is ravaged by extremist members and candidates, loosely termed TPers, is incapable of governing because the extremists want to dismantle the federal structure and “save the Constitution” by destroying it. They eschew political compromise as trafficking with sinners and/or traitors.Their various extremist ideologys make them useful fools and tools for the plutocrats bankrolling this travesty for their own present and future profits.

Thanks to Faux and its ilk, this may be whistling passed the graveyard.

It’s not as deep as a well, nor as wide as a church door, but 'tis enough!

But not enough to vote when the chips are down.

It’s hard to muster up any schadenfreude over the Republican majority’s pratfalls and mishaps, but I am at least as concerned – if not more so – about the takeover of state governments. These people are causing a lot of trouble, and they will be overseeing the next elections. In contrast, the Republican Congress will not do too much damage.

“…The House has passed a bill…”

Clearly proving, as Mitch McConnell would no doubt say, that the House doesn’t really want a bill.

The GOP chose this game. They chose to fund DHS separately. They painted themselves into that corner. So I feel no sympathy for them. and the fact they are willing to play with HOMELAND SECURITY ya know… the security of AMERICA (sorry about yelling folks) shows they are incapable of governing as the majority party.

Except that the damage the repubs do hurts all of us, not just repubs.

I would just say that I’m not sure the majority of Americans support Obama’s executive order. I thought I saw a recent survey that said even 36% or thereabouts of Democrats don’t like it. I can’t remember who did the survey.

Attacking one another is about the only time Republicans tell the truth.,

Ted, immigrant against immigration-Doh!, Cruz, is the GOP, the rest of the Rat Bastards are just renting his space.
The Cuban Cigar sponsored Republican Party isn’t going to make it to the Super Bowl. A vodka infused punch bowl is about the best they are going to do.

Impeach, shut down, sue, whatever. Republicans all blow smoke and their god knows what else.
