Periodically, there is a sane Republican that actually READS the Constitution…even in Idaho.

Props to the Gov., even though the party is a complete mess, there are still a few at least one Republican who is willing to do the right thing for now.

How low have we set the bar that this is praiseworthy.

“could be used for reference purposes in subjects such as literature, history, music and world geography.”

No. Just no. (Well, maybe literature if you’re using the KJV and you want to talk about the theories that some famous authors of the time were responsible for parts of it, or to look at how it’s affected wirting in english since then. But that’s not a course that the legislature needs to micromanage.)

The appeal to the Founders is just showing a glimpse of historical revisionism. Many of the founders were reported as Christian, that does not mean it had much say in founding the Constitution. Not all governments founded by Christians look like the US, really the US was somewhat unique in the period, though not totally.

Well if they are not specifically teaching a religion form a religious book but more style or comparing to other beliefs both current and ones no longer practiced much I didn’t really see the issue. Yea I know it’s a fine line, but I do think it might be good to give people a chance to compare beliefs outside of a place that’s pushing a certain one. Probably not worth it though as someone would always be bitching about some aspect of it.

I don’t think there is any question about the legislative intent. The article notes that the same legislature that approved use of the Bible also debated a bill “designed to keep Shariah law out of government agencies and court cases.”

When my son was an undergrad at a public university on the east side of the San Francisco Bay he took a course in The Bible as Literature. I doubt that is the intention in Idaho.

Holy hell, a principled conservative?

Where did he come from?

Yea I agree, but it’s probably hard to find many if any churches or religious institutions that wuold teach a comparison of world religions and I think a lot of folks would benefit if they did that. Granted I probably only feel that way because I’m a non-believer.

No idea, but I’m sure the party is about to send him back there.

And it just keeps on coming. The “fight for the Constitution” crowd marches on trying to foist nakedly unconstitutional crap on the American people. And I guess that passes as “freedom”…having to live under the thumb of someone else’s religion.

I know we’ve all pondered this crap but where is the big media story? Who’s asking these clowns if that’s what they think our Founders and the American people want?

Actually, he’s probably just realistic enough to know it would be overturned in a heartbeat by the state supreme court.

He called it “a piece of historical literature”.

True as that is, something tell me the base isn’t going to take kindly to that.

Our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were not written by Christians for Christians.
They were written by Deists for everyone.

“no-nothings”? Seriously? I didn’t think irony could get too thick for me, but this takes the cake!

“Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”
