Discussion: GOP Donor Gives $1 Million To Fight Missouri's 8-Week Abortion Ban

No doubt they are astutely aware that the laws being passed in Bible belt states will alienate every voter who is not an anti-abortion extremist. They want to preserve abortion as the endless get-out-the-vote motivator among the religious right, voters they need to maintain the legislative majority that will promote their equally evil social agenda against workers and the poor.

It’s not my business what any women decides to do with their body.

No more than I would expect anyone to decide what I do.

“Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.

Mine and mine alone, and each and everyone else can do the same.

What is so fucking hard about this? I thought you Federalists believed in this.

What Humphreys is trying to do is to keep the contradiction of an exemption out of abortion laws so that the forced birthers aren’t seen as complicit in the crimes of rape and incest. He wants to keep that veil over the eyes of the people that see abortion as murder.

TAMKO. (not TAMPKO)

Anyone who’s ever roofed a house with asphalt shingles knows that name…

I would say he isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt - he’s getting credit for publicly taking a stand and spending a non-trivial amount of money to back it up. It’s entirely possible that he is anti-choice for most situations. However, he didn’t have to spend a dime or make a public statement that includes the phrase “I do support a woman’s right to choose.” How many republicans lately are willing to say that publicly?

The context may make it a less than perfect win, but it is definitely a win. Take the win and keep fighting.

St Louis, not Kansas City

Let me get this straight.

You’re saying that even before you’re fully aware of your daughters “bad” situation that you’re confident that you and your wife will be able to talk her out of having an abortion, is that about it?

Why even waste your time trying to understand if you’re predisposed to not understand?

Perhaps women simple do not tell @mondfledermaus everything about their personal situations. Women often know how to stay quiet around disapproving men.

No the context is he’s only for rape and incest exceptions. That still bans abortions fro all other women. Thats a loss! The abortion fight is not just for rape and incest survivors it’s for ALL women.

I hope he truly supports that. The complex regulations & barriers set up by laws requiring justification & proof of your choice - also putting doctors at risk of punishment - end up being effectively no choice. Just another form of TRAP.

And, when all is said and done, they will probably not impose those beliefs on only those ‘rape and incest’ survivors who happen to be the wives or daughters of politicians in Jefferson City.

And maybe their granddaughters, too.

Oh, and certainly on their mistresses.

How much credit does the millionaire seek or get from harder-core forced birthers, by claiming to be “personally” against abortion? Does anyone believe the opposite? Is anyone personally a huge fan of abortion but willing to allow an exception for mutually desired, Pope approved intercourse between husband and wife? Of course not! The whole thing is just ridiculous.

This guy is one of the biggest GOP donors in Missouri. Without his support the GOP incumbents are probably quaking or would be if the Democratic party existed in Missouri.

My feelings as well, my wife’s too, no woman that I have ever been involved with have had an abortion.

If you are including any woman you know–relatives, socially, professionally–it is highly likely you know a woman who has had an abortion. Women I know who have confided in me did so after very carefully vetting what my reaction would be.

Conclusion: His daughter or a mistress of his either is in danger of getting pregnant or IS pregnant.

He’s figured out that the GOP jerks he supported in the first place have overreached in ways that are damaging Republican prospects across the country.

He may be personally pro choice but he has been supporting politicians who aren’t.

I don’t know enough about the guy to know his motives or history. It just seemed interesting that a GOP’er would makes a “pro-choice” statement… But then they’re known to be duplicitous.

I don’t actually doubt that he is pro- choice but personally anti’-abortion. But with 'friends" like that…

Yep, but for better or worse, there are a whole lotta folks who are anti-abortion, whether we like it or not. Like Trumpers, you’ll never change their minds. As long as we can keep abortion legal, that’s the critical part.

Current rate we are not going to. The Pro- choice tolerated anti choice politicians before because they didn’t feel endangered. When the younger generations of.women start hearing from their friends and relatives what it feels like to be carrying a pregnancy due to a rapist there will start to be just as much single issue voting on our side.
